There is a moment that happens when the word of God is truly received. Something breaks open. Something that had been locked and heavy suddenly cannot hold its ground anymore. That is not wishful thinking. That is the nature of the word of God. It is a thunder, and when thunder comes, the ground shakes. What was standing in the wrong place has to fall.
The Word That Heals and Delivers
Psalm 107:20 records one of the most extraordinary declarations in all of Scripture:
"He sent out his word and healed them. He rescued them from the grave." Psalm 107:20
When the word comes in, power is happening. And when the power comes, what follows is deliverance. Wherever there is bondage, wherever there is darkness, wherever someone has been held captive, that deliverance begins to take place when the word of God arrives. The healing that is needed, whether it is emotional, physical, or spiritual, has to happen in the name of Jesus. He sent forth His word and healed them.
You are not just listening to someone speaking. Every time you receive the word of God, you are receiving the power of heaven.
He also delivered them from their destruction. Whatever you have been looking at as a prison in your life, whatever feels like chains, whatever seems to have you locked in a situation you cannot escape, the word of God is sent against that very thing. It does not negotiate with it. It breaks it. It melts it. It commands it to go. That is what the thunder does when it comes.
From Thunder to Wonders
Now here is the beautiful progression that God builds in His word. We began in Job 37:5 with a God whose voice thunders. We saw in Psalm 29:4 that the voice of the Lord is powerful. And now in Psalm 107:21, the thread is completed:
"Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of men." Psalm 107:21
Do you see what God is doing? The thunder does not just stop at power. The power does not just stop at deliverance. It keeps going all the way to wonders. Wonders in your life. Wonders in your children's lives. This is the year when you are going to end with a praise report about something God did that you could not have imagined, something you could not have planned, something you never thought to ask for. He does great things beyond our understanding, and He is doing that for you.
The path is this: receive the word, experience the power, walk into the wonder.
What You Declare Is Not Ordinary
Here is something that needs to settle deeply in your heart. When you declare the word of God over your situation, you are not just speaking words. You are declaring the word that created the heavens and the earth. The word is not just a concept. The word is Jesus Christ Himself. John 1:1 anchors all of this:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1
When you declare His provision, when you declare His promise, when you declare His word, heaven responds. Angels move. God, who lives in you, works for your family. Nothing broken, nothing missing, nothing lacking in the name of Jesus.
This is why it matters what you say. This is why you cannot keep declaring your weakness and expect a wonder to emerge. The word you believe and the word you speak is what invites the power of heaven to move in your circumstances. You are not just venting to the air. You are releasing a creative force that was there at the beginning of all things, and it has not lost a single ounce of its power.
The Posture That Receives the Wonder
So what is the right response? Psalm 107:21 tells us plainly. Let them thank the Lord.
"Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind" Psalm 107:21
Gratitude is not a polite afterthought. It is the posture of someone who has already decided that God is greater than their problem. It is the stance of someone who is not waiting to see the wonder before they praise. They praise because they know the word has been sent, the power is moving, and the wonder is on the way.
Think about what this looks like in your life today. You can walk on the water. You can face your Goliath. You can run toward the enemy that has been intimidating you. You can do all things, not because of your own strength, but because Jesus died for you, Jesus rose from the dead, heaven is working for you, and you are surrounded by the armies of God.
That is not exaggeration. That is the inheritance of every person who has received the word of God and chosen to believe it. You are not an ordinary person. Every time you listen to the word of God, something breaks, something delivers, something is redeemed and exchanged, because you are not just receiving a man's words. You are receiving the power of heaven itself.
The word you believe and the word you declare opens the door for heaven to work on your behalf.
Conclusion
The word of God is a thunder. And when that thunder comes into your life, it brings rain. And when the rain comes, the season changes. And when the season changes, there is a harvest. That harvest is your wonder. Do not look at what you have in your hands and call it small. Do not look at your situation and call it impossible. Look at the word that has been sent into your life and know that it does not return empty. It will accomplish everything it was sent to do. Your healing, your deliverance, your breakthrough, your wonder. They are already in motion because the word has been sent.
Thank God now, not after you see it. Thank Him because He is faithful. Thank Him because His love is steadfast. Thank Him because the word that thunders never fails.
Reflect on This
Is there a situation in your life right now that feels like chains or a prison? How does knowing that God's sent word specifically has power to break that situation change how you are approaching it today?
The progression in this message moves from thunder to power to deliverance to wonders. Where do you believe you currently are in that progression, and what does it look like for you to keep moving forward into the wonder?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You that You sent Your word and it heals. I declare that every chain, every bondage, and every form of darkness in my life has to break right now because Your word has been sent against it. I receive the power of Your word. I declare that I am moving from power into deliverance and from deliverance into the wonder You have prepared for me. Heaven is working for me. Angels are moving on my behalf. Nothing is broken, nothing is missing, and nothing is lacking in my life in Jesus' name. I choose to thank You now, before I see the full evidence, because Your word never fails. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Key Takeaways
God sends His word specifically to heal and deliver; when it arrives in your life, chains and bondage cannot hold their ground.
The progression of God's word moves from thunder to power, from power to deliverance, and from deliverance to wonders in your life.
When you declare the word of God, you are releasing the same creative force that made the heavens and the earth, and heaven responds to it.
Gratitude is not a response to the wonder; it is the posture that positions you to receive the wonder before it is seen.
You are not an ordinary person; every time you receive the word of God, something breaks, something is redeemed, and something extraordinary is set in motion.
