Fear narrows your vision and blinds you to the solutions God has already placed around you.

Have you ever been in a situation so overwhelming that you simply could not see a way forward? You looked in every direction and found nothing but dry ground, empty hands, and a sinking heart. If that is where you find yourself today, then this message is for you. God has not missed your situation. He has not overlooked your cry. And He is about to open your eyes to something you could not see before.

Hagar in the Wilderness

There is a deeply moving story in Genesis that speaks directly to moments of desperation. Hagar, the mother of Ishmael, found herself sent away from Abraham's household with nothing but bread and a skin of water. She wandered into the wilderness of Beersheba, and eventually, the water ran out.

"When the water in the skin was all gone, Hagar abandoned the boy under one of the bushes." Genesis 21:15

She walked away from her son, sat down a short distance from him, and began to weep. She could not bear to watch him die. But here is something important to notice. Though she sat with her back turned, in her mind she was already predicting the end. She was calculating the stages of what she believed was an inevitable tragedy.

Sometimes we do the same thing. We count what we have left in the bank and predict how long before it runs out. We hear a diagnosis and mentally begin preparing for the worst. We look at our situation and start mapping out every possible bad outcome. We meditate on the problem instead of the promise. And the more we meditate on the problem, the bigger it becomes.

Most of the time we meditate on the problem and, in doing so, we make it bigger.

Hagar was not in a wrong situation because of a wrong choice she made. She was in the middle of a painful circumstance that was not of her own making. And perhaps that describes you today too. You did not choose this problem. You did not create this situation. But you are in it. And it feels just as overwhelming and tangled as a bowl of noodles, where everything seems locked together and impossible to separate.

God Heard the Cry

But watch what God does in this moment.

"God heard the voice of the boy, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, 'What troubles you, Hagar? Do not be afraid, for God has heard the voice of the boy from where he is resting. Get up, help the boy up and hold him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.'" Genesis 21:17-18

God heard. Not just the prayers of the adults, but even the silent cry of a child under a bush in the middle of the wilderness. The angel of God, who is understood to be a pre-incarnate appearance of Christ Himself, came down and spoke directly to Hagar. He asked her, "What troubles you?" And this morning, God is asking you the very same question.

What is troubling you? Is it your finances? Your health? Your family? Your children? Your future? Whatever it is, bring it before God. Let this be the last day that trouble has a hold on your heart.

The answer God gave Hagar was not a complicated plan. It was not a strategy or a method. He simply said, "Fear not." Two words that carry the weight of all of heaven behind them. Fear not, because I have heard. Fear not, because I have a plan. Fear not, because what you think is dying is not dying at all.

What you are expecting to end, God has already planned to make great.

Eyes Opened to Hidden Treasures

Now comes one of the most beautiful moments in the story. After God spoke, something remarkable happened.

"Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. She went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink." Genesis 21:19

Notice that God did not create a new well. The well was already there. It had been there all along. But in her fear, in her grief, in her desperation, Hagar simply could not see it. Fear has a way of narrowing your vision until all you can see is the problem. But when God opens your eyes, you begin to see what was hidden from you.

This is exactly what God promises in Scripture.

"I will give you the treasures of darkness, the hoarded treasures and the hidden riches of secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, who calls you by your name." Isaiah 45:3-4

God is going to show you hidden treasures. He is going to open your eyes to resources, opportunities, and solutions that you could not see because your focus was locked on the problem. The moment you turn your eyes to His word, the moment you choose to trust that He is faithful, the things that were hidden begin to come into view.

You Are Delivered Today

It does not matter what the financial report says. It does not matter what the medical report says. It does not matter what your circumstances look like from the outside. When you know that God is on your side, when you carry the anointing of Jesus, when you believe that His word is true, every scheme of the enemy has to fall. Every obstacle in your path, every anxiety, every desperate situation, every dry season, it melts in Jesus' name.

You are not alone in your wilderness. The same God who saw Ishmael under that bush, the same God who spoke to Hagar when she had given up, that same God sees you today. He knows your name. He hears your cry. And He is ready to open your eyes to the well that has been there all along.

Go forward today knowing that God has already won your battle. He has already made a way. He is the God of hidden treasures, and He is revealing them to you right now.

Conclusion

Hagar had already written the ending in her mind. The water was gone, the wilderness was wide, and she sat down to wait for the worst. But God had written a different ending. He heard the cry she thought no one noticed, He spoke peace over her fear, and then He did the most astonishing thing of all. He opened her eyes. The well was never far away. It was there the whole time, waiting for a woman who had stopped looking to lift her head again.

That is your invitation today. Your circumstances may not have changed yet, but your seeing can change right now. Stop rehearsing the worst outcome. God is not waiting for things to improve before He acts. He is asking you the same tender question, "What troubles you?" and answering it Himself with two words that settle everything: fear not.

You are not forgotten. The hidden riches of secret places are being uncovered, and the voice that called Hagar by name is calling you by yours. Lift your eyes. The well is closer than your fear allowed you to believe.

Reflect on This

  1. Like Hagar, are you predicting the worst outcome for a situation in your life instead of trusting that God has already prepared a solution?

  2. What might God be trying to open your eyes to see if you shifted your focus from the problem to His promises?

Prayer

Father, I thank You that You hear my cry and You see every detail of my situation. Just as You opened Hagar's eyes to the well that was already there, I declare that You are opening my eyes today to the hidden treasures and solutions You have already prepared for me. I will not fear. I will not predict the worst. I trust Your word above every report, every circumstance, and every voice of doubt. You are faithful, and Your promises over my life are yes and amen. I receive my deliverance, my healing, and my breakthrough right now by faith. In Jesus Name, Amen.
