The Snake That Swallowed Every Curse Against You

August 30, 2026

There is a moment in the Bible that looks like a strange contest between two sides, but hidden inside it is one of the most powerful revelations of what God did for you through Jesus Christ. When you see it, really see it, it will change the way you think about yourself, your past, and your future forever. Today, let's open our hearts and explore this incredible truth together.
A Confrontation in Pharaoh's Court
In Exodus chapter 7, Moses and Aaron stood before the most powerful ruler of their time. God had sent them with a mission, and they obeyed completely. Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent. Pharaoh, not to be outdone, called his wise men, his sorcerers, and his magicians. They did the same thing with their secret arts. Every man threw down his staff, and they too turned into serpents.
"So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent. Then Pharaoh called for the wise men and sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts." Exodus 7:10, 11
For a moment, it might have looked like a draw. But then something extraordinary happened.
"For every man threw down his staff and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs." Exodus 7:12
Aaron's staff, transformed into a serpent, swallowed every single serpent that the enemy produced. Not one escaped. Not one remained. They were all consumed.
What the Rod Really Represents
Now here is where this gets deeply personal for you. The rod, the staff of Aaron, represents the Word of God. When Aaron's staff became a serpent and swallowed all those other serpents, think about what was happening spiritually. The Word of God was consuming everything the enemy threw at it. Every counterfeit. Every scheme. Every piece of darkness.
But notice something remarkable. When Aaron's serpent swallowed those poisonous snakes, the poison did not harm it. It did not turn around and start biting Moses or Aaron or the people standing nearby. It absorbed everything, swallowed everything, and then returned to being Aaron's staff. The rod of the Word of God. Unharmed. Unchanged. Victorious.
The Word of God can absorb every poison the enemy throws without it ever becoming poisonous itself.
This is not just ancient history. This is a picture of the cross of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Lifted Up Like the Serpent
In the Gospel of John, Jesus Himself draws a direct connection to another serpent in the wilderness. When the people of Israel were dying from snake bites in the desert, Moses lifted up a bronze serpent on a pole, and everyone who looked at it was healed. Jesus said that He would be lifted up in the same way.
"No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up." John 3:14
Jesus was comparing Himself to that lifted serpent. Just as Aaron's rod became a serpent that swallowed all others, Jesus, the living Word of God, was lifted on the cross to swallow everything that was destroying humanity. Every sin. Every curse. Every sickness. Every shame. Every anxiety. Every piece of death and darkness.
He took it all into His own body.
"He made Christ who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21
He Swallowed the Sin of the World
Let that truth land in your heart for a moment. Jesus knew no sin. He was perfect in every thought, every word, every action. John chapter 10 records Jesus saying that everything He did was the work of the Father.
"If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me." John 10:37
He did only good. Only right. Only holy. And yet, this perfectly sinless man took the entire weight of the world's sin upon Himself on the cross. Just like Aaron's serpent swallowed all those poisonous snakes, Jesus swallowed the sin of this world.
"Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" John 1:29
He swallowed the sin. He swallowed the curse. He swallowed the lust, the shame, the sickness, the barrenness, the depression, the anxiety, the failure. Every single thing that belongs to death and destruction came upon His body at Calvary.
Jesus did not just forgive your sin. He consumed it so completely that it has no more claim on you.
The Poison Did Not Win
Here is the part that should make you want to leap out of your seat. When all that sin and poison entered Jesus on the cross, the enemy thought he had won. Satan must have thought, "Now the sin is in Him. Now He will condemn these people. Now He will judge them. Now He will curse them back."
But just like Aaron's serpent, the poison never impacted Jesus in that way. Instead, from the cross, Jesus looked out at the very people who put Him there and said, "Father, forgive them. They do not know what they are doing."
Not condemnation. Not judgment. Forgiveness.
The schemes of the enemy completely failed. The poison could not make Jesus turn against you. Instead, He absorbed it all, and it became your complete freedom.
Conclusion
Just like Aaron's staff swallowed every serpent and returned unharmed to being the rod of God, Jesus swallowed every sin of this world, rose from the dead, and is now seated in glory. And because of what He did, a divine exchange has taken place in your life. He took your sin so you could have His righteousness. He took your curse so you could walk in blessing. He took your sickness so you could receive healing. He took your shame so you could stand in dignity as a child of God. This is the wonder of the cross, and it is yours today.
Reflect on This
When you think about the fact that Jesus absorbed every sin, every curse, and every form of darkness without being overcome by any of it, how does that change the way you see His love for you personally?
Is there an area of your life where you have been struggling to believe that the divine exchange truly applies to you? What would it look like to boldly declare your new identity in Christ over that area today?
Prayer
Father, I thank You that Jesus, the living Word of God, swallowed every sin, every curse, every sickness, and every form of darkness that was meant for me. I receive the divine exchange right now. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I am healed by His stripes. I am blessed and not cursed. I am free and not bound. Every old identity is gone, and I walk in the new identity of the new creation You have made me to be. I reign in life through Jesus Christ. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Key Takeaways
Aaron's staff swallowing the enemy's serpents is a powerful picture of how Jesus consumed everything that was destroying humanity.
Jesus absorbed the full weight of the world's sin on the cross without it changing His nature or His love for you.
The divine exchange means your sin became His, and His righteousness became yours, completely and permanently.
Your identity as a child of God is not based on what you have done but entirely on what Jesus did at the cross.
