The Snake Bit Him, But Nothing Happened.

September 08, 2026

There is something remarkable about a story where the very thing meant to destroy you ends up becoming the turning point of your life. Today, we are going to walk through one of those stories, and by the time we are done, you will see yourself, your challenges, and your future in a completely new light.
A Snake, A Shipwreck, and A Shifted Calculation
In Acts chapter 28, the Apostle Paul had already survived a shipwreck. He and his companions found themselves stranded on an island. As they gathered around a fire, a snake came out of the wood and bit Paul. Now, the people of that island had a certain expectation. They had seen what that kind of snake could do. They had their own calculation of how long it would take for someone to collapse, to suffer, to die.
But Paul simply shook the snake off into the fire, and nothing happened to him.
"His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and after prayer placed his hands on him and healed him. When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. They honored us in many ways and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed." Acts 28: 8 -10
Think about what changed from that one moment. The villagers had lived with a certain fear about that snake. But from the day they saw Paul walk away unharmed, their understanding shifted entirely. The same snake. The same island. But a completely different experience.
Stop Calculating With the World's Numbers
This is such a powerful picture of something many of us wrestle with daily. We calculate our lives using the world's system. If I get this job, if I reach this number in my bank account, if this situation changes, then everything will be okay. We limit ourselves to what we can see and measure.
But God's calculations are not like ours. When God speaks blessing over you, He does not use finite numbers.
"I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore." Genesis 22:17
You cannot count the stars. You cannot number the sand on the seashore. That is the scale at which God thinks about your blessing. Every time you trust the world's system over God's Word, you are unknowingly capping what God can do in your life. But when you trust in the Word of God, you are training your mind to operate in an entirely different economy, one that is not shaken by oil prices, financial markets, or the circumstances around you.
God's blessing is not measured in what you have. It is measured by who He is.
The Cross Changed Your Experience Forever
The villagers' experience with that snake changed the day Paul stood firm. In the same way, your experience with the enemy, with sickness, with lack, and with fear changed the day Jesus went to the cross.
At the cross, Jesus took the bite of the serpent. He swallowed every sting of darkness so that no poison of the enemy could ever have the final word in your life. And just like Paul, you now carry a new identity. The old nature is gone. A new nature has been placed in you.
"Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil. And free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death." Hebrews 2:14, 15
Do you see what that means for you? If Jesus has delivered you from lifelong slavery, then you have stepped into lifelong sonship. Lifelong healing. Lifelong favor. Lifelong provision. Lifelong new beginnings.
"Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life." Psalm 23:6
All the days. Not just the good days. Not just the easy days. Every single day of your life, goodness and mercy are following you.
If you have been freed from lifelong slavery, then you have inherited lifelong blessing.
The Weapon Becomes the Testimony
Here is where the story gets even more extraordinary. The snake that came to destroy Paul did not just fail. It became the very reason an entire village encountered the healing power of God. Because of that one moment, everyone who was sick on that island came to Paul and was healed. And then the islanders loaded Paul's ship with everything he needed for his journey.
The weapon became the provision. The attack became the testimony. The thing meant to take one life ended up giving life to an entire community.
This is exactly what God does. He does not just diffuse the enemy's weapons. He uses those same weapons for His glory.
Remember David and Goliath. The giant that terrified all of Israel became the very platform that launched David into his destiny. The same Goliath that was meant to destroy became the stepping stone to promotion.
"And in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility." Ephesians 2:16
Jesus did not just manage your problems. He did not just solve them. He killed the hostility. Every curse, every sickness, every spirit of darkness, every spirit of poverty, He destroyed it all by abolishing the enmity at the cross.
"The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil." 1 John 3:8
That is why Jesus came. Not to manage evil. Not to negotiate with it. To destroy it completely.
You Are a New Creation Walking in Victory
The enemy thought he had won when Jesus died on the cross. But the cross was not the end. It was the turning point. Jesus rose again, and now everyone who believes in Him carries that same resurrection life.
"Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword." Matthew 10:34
This verse is often misunderstood. Jesus is not bringing a sword against you. He is bringing a sword against the works of darkness, against the lies of the enemy, against every scheme that has come against your life. For you, He brought peace. The kind of peace the world cannot give or take away.
The enemy is the one who is confused now. He thought one bite would end it all. But it did not. And because of the cross, there are now millions of believers walking this earth carrying the life and nature of Jesus. All we need to do is renew our minds, walk in what Jesus has already done, and use the sword of the Word against every lie the enemy tries to whisper.
Rise up. Shine. Your family is secured. Your future is secured. Your healing has been purchased. You are not connected to the broken economy of this world. You are connected to the economy of heaven, and you will surely see the goodness of God in the land of the living.
Conclusion
Paul shook the snake off into the fire and walked away unharmed. What the islanders expected to be a death sentence became the doorway to an entire community's healing and provision. That is not coincidence. That is the pattern of God.
The snake that came for Paul did not just fail. It became the reason a whole island encountered the power of God. And that is exactly what God is doing in your life right now. The attack that was meant to silence you is being repositioned as your greatest testimony. The trial that was designed to break you is becoming the very platform from which others will witness what God can do.
You are not living under the old calculation anymore. The cross changed everything. Jesus took the full bite of the serpent so that no poison of darkness could have the final word over your life. You have stepped out of lifelong slavery and into lifelong sonship, lifelong healing, lifelong favor, and lifelong new beginnings. Goodness and mercy are not occasionally following you. They are following you all the days of your life.
So shake it off. Whatever has attached itself to you, whatever the enemy intended to bring you down, shake it off into the fire and keep walking. Your family is secured. Your future is secured. You are not connected to the broken economy of this world. You are connected to heaven, and you will surely see the goodness of God in the land of the living.
Reflect on This
In what area of your life have you been calculating based on the world's system rather than trusting in what God's Word promises?
Can you identify a challenge or attack in your life that God might be transforming into a testimony and a stepping stone to your promotion?
Prayer
Father, I thank You that the works of the enemy have already been destroyed through the cross of Jesus Christ. I declare that I am a new creation, and the old nature has no power over me. I walk in lifelong healing, lifelong favor, and lifelong provision. Every weapon formed against me is diffused, and I trust that You are turning my trials into testimonies. I am connected to the economy of heaven, and I will see Your goodness in the land of the living. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Key Takeaways
God's calculations for your life are far beyond what any worldly system can measure or limit.
At the cross, Jesus destroyed the power of death and the works of the enemy once and for all.
The very weapon the enemy uses against you can become the platform for your greatest testimony and promotion.
As a new creation in Christ, you are no longer bound by lifelong slavery but have inherited lifelong blessing, healing, and favor.
