Today, let's anchor ourselves in the unshakeable foundation of God's Word. In a world filled with shifting emotions and uncertain circumstances, we have something far more reliable than our feelings or experiences. Prepare your heart to discover the transformative power of trusting in God's promises above all else.
Established Through Belief
When we truly believe in the Lord our God, something remarkable happens, we become established. The dictionary defines "establish" as setting something up on a firm or permanent basis. This isn't temporary stability; it's being completely fixed and rooted in something unshakeable.
"Believe and trust in the Lord your God and you will be established, secured; believe and trust in His prophets and succeed." - 2 Chronicles 20:20
When storms rage around us, when circumstances seem overwhelming, we remain unmoved because we are built upon the Rock. No enemy can shake us when our foundation is Christ Himself. This establishment comes through believing, not just intellectual agreement, but deep, unwavering trust in God's character and promises.
The Path to Success
The second part of this powerful verse reveals another truth: believing in God's prophets leads to success. But what does this mean for us today? The prophets brought God's word to His people, confirming and affirming His promises. When we believe the prophetic word, the written Word of God, we position ourselves for divine success.
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read and meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous and then you will be successful." - Joshua 1:8
Success isn't just about worldly achievement; it's about walking in alignment with God's purposes and experiencing His blessing in every area of life.
Something More Sure
The apostle Peter had an extraordinary experience on the Mount of Transfiguration. He witnessed Jesus in His glory, saw Moses and Elijah, and heard the Father's voice declaring His pleasure in His Son. Yet Peter makes a startling comparison:
"So we have the prophetic word made more certain. You do well to pay close attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and light breaks through the gloom and the Morning Star arises in your hearts." - 2 Peter 1:19
Peter declares that the written Word of God is more reliable than even his supernatural experience. This is profound! While experiences can be wonderful, they can also be subjective and temporary. God's Word, however, remains constant and trustworthy.
"The Word of God is more powerful than any experience and more real than any emotion."
Living Beyond Feelings
Your emotions may tell you that you're anxious, depressed, or forgotten, but God's Word declares that you have the joy of the Lord, perfect peace, and are never forsaken. Your circumstances might suggest defeat, but Scripture proclaims you are more than a conqueror. This is why we must choose to live by God's Word rather than our fluctuating feelings.
When darkness surrounds you, whether doubt, fear, or discouragement, focus on God's Word like a lamp shining in a dark place. The more you focus on His promises, the more His light dispels the darkness in your heart and mind.
When Experience Fades But Love Remains
I had awesome experience, For nearly three months, there was an overwhelming experience of God's tangible love. While driving to work, this glorious love would manifest so powerfully that tears would flow uncontrollably. Even at work, this magnificent presence would bring such overwhelming emotion that colleagues would ask if everything was okay. It was an awesome, life-changing season of feeling God's love in such a real, tangible way.
But then, that intense feeling stopped. The tangible experience of God's love was no longer felt in the same way. Here's the crucial truth: the absence of that feeling doesn't mean God's love disappeared. This is exactly what Peter understood when he declared that God's Word is more sure than experience.
God's Word declares: "I love you more than anything. I will never forsake you. I live in you. You are My child. I love you so much that I gave My only Son." These words are more reliable than any emotional experience, no matter how powerful or meaningful it was.
"Those experiences are wonderful, but the greater reality is found in God's Word."
If we lived only by our experiences and feelings, we would think God had abandoned us whenever we don't feel His tangible presence. But when we anchor ourselves in His written promises, we remain secure in His love regardless of what we feel or don't feel.
Until the Morning Star Rises
Peter encourages us to keep our attention fixed on God's Word "until the day dawns and the Morning Star arises in your hearts." This means continuing to focus on His promises until they become so real to you that they shine brightly within your heart, bringing comfort, hope, and unshakeable faith.
Just as turning on a lamp instantly removes darkness from a room, focusing on God's Word drives away doubt, fear, and confusion. Keep your eyes on His promises until His truth becomes more real to you than any contrary circumstance.
Conclusion
Today, choose to trust God's Word above your emotions, experiences, or circumstances. His promises are your firm foundation, and His prophetic word is your pathway to success. When you feel overwhelmed, remember that you have something more sure than any feeling, you have the unchanging Word of the living God. Let His truth shine in your heart until every shadow of doubt disappears.
Reflect on This
In what areas of your life do you need to trust God's Word more than your current feelings or circumstances?
How can you make God's promises more real to you than the challenges you're facing today?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your Word is more reliable than any emotion or experience. I declare that I am established in You because I believe in Your promises. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I choose to focus on Your truth until it shines brightly in my heart, dispelling every shadow of doubt and fear. I am Your beloved child, and You are well pleased with me through Christ. Your promises are yes and amen in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
