You Are Destined to Do Greater Things

November 04, 2026

What if the life you are living right now is only the beginning of something far greater? What if God has placed inside you the same miraculous potential He placed in Jesus? That is not a bold claim. That is exactly what Jesus promised. Today, let that truth sink deep into your heart as we walk through one of the most powerful and often misunderstood passages in all of Scripture.
The Union That Changes Everything
Before Jesus makes any big promises, He lays down a foundation. He wants His disciples, and that includes you, to understand a core spiritual reality: He and the Father are one. Not just close. Not just aligned. They live in each other.
"Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not say on my own initiative or authority, but the Father abiding continually in me does his work. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of the works themselves." John 14:11
Jesus is making this plain: every word He spoke came from the Father. Every miracle He performed was the Father working through Him. He was not operating alone. And here is the life-changing part: that same truth applies to you. You are not alone. The Father lives in you and you live in the Father. When you begin to renew your mind to this truth, something shifts. You stop trying to do life on your own strength and start walking in the power of God living inside you.
You are not doing life alone. The Father lives in you.
The Promise That Raises the Bar
With that foundation firmly in place, Jesus then says something that should stop you in your tracks.
"I assure you and most solemnly say to you, anyone who believes in me will also do the things that I do, and he will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." John 14:11,12
Read that again slowly. Anyone who believes. Not just apostles. Not just pastors or missionaries. Anyone. That means you.
Think about what Jesus did during His time on earth. He healed the sick, opened blind eyes, raised the dead, calmed storms, and cast out demons. And He is saying that those who believe in Him will do the same works, and even greater ones. Why? Because He was going to the Father.
Here is a helpful way to picture it. When someone leaves an important position in a company, they train someone to take their place. Jesus, no longer in physical form on the earth, has now entrusted that role to every believer. His assignment, to carry out the desires of the Father, is now your assignment. The Father who lived in Jesus now lives in you. That is why the bar is not just the same. It is higher. Jesus says, you will do greater things.
This is not the language of a leader who feels threatened by the growth of others. This is the heart of the greatest leader who ever lived. He does not hold back. He raises you up and says, go do even more than I did.
Jesus does not hold you back. He calls you forward into greater things.
Asking in His Name Guarantees Results
Jesus does not leave you wondering how any of this is possible. He tells you exactly how it works.
"Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it." John 14:13,14
This is a guarantee. Not a maybe. Not a someday. Whatever you ask in His name, He will do. And notice the reason why. Jesus wants to answer your prayers not just for your sake, but so the Father is glorified and celebrated. That means Jesus is actually more eager for your prayers to be answered than you are. Every time God moves in your life, it brings honour to the Father and celebration to the Son. The whole of heaven rejoices when your prayer is answered.
So when you pray in Jesus' name, you are tapping into something far bigger than a religious ritual. You are stepping into a divine partnership. No sickness, no closed door, no lack, no anxiety has any final word over your life when you call on the name of Jesus. You will be healed. You will be restored. You will be empowered. Doors that seemed permanently shut will open. Miracles will follow you.
"If you love me you will keep and obey my commandments." John 14:15
And the heart behind all of this is love. When you love Jesus and live according to His word, you are positioned to walk in everything He has promised.
Conclusion
Today's truth is this: you are not a small, powerless person trying to survive. You are a believer in whom the Father lives, empowered by the same Spirit that worked through Jesus, and called to do even greater things. The bar has been raised, not to overwhelm you, but to show you the extraordinary life God has already prepared for you. Believe it. Ask in His name. And watch the Father be glorified through your life.
Reflect on This
Do you truly believe that the Father lives in you the same way He lived in Jesus, and how would your daily life look different if you did?
What area of your life do you need to bring before Jesus in prayer today, trusting that He is more eager to answer than you are to ask?
Prayer
Father, I thank You that You live in me and I live in You. I declare that I am not alone. I receive the promise that I will do great and mighty works in the name of Jesus. I bring every need before You now, believing that my prayers are already answered for Your glory. Every door opens, every sickness bows, and every lack is filled because I walk in the name of Jesus. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Key Takeaways
The same Father who worked through Jesus now lives in every believer, making you a vessel for His power.
Jesus promises that those who believe in Him will do the same works He did and even greater ones.
Praying in Jesus' name is a guaranteed channel for answered prayer that brings glory to the Father.
Jesus is more eager to answer your prayers than you are to pray them, because every answered prayer celebrates His name.
