Why Jesus Came: The Truth Nobody Tells You

October 07, 2026

Have you ever stopped to wonder what was truly lost when Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden? And more importantly, have you considered what was truly restored when Jesus came? Today, we are stepping into one of the most powerful and often overlooked truths in all of Scripture. It is a truth that changes everything about how you see yourself, your circumstances, and the life God has called you to live.
Samson and Jesus: A Striking Parallel
In the book of Judges, we read one of the most remarkable moments in the life of Samson. Standing between two great pillars, he made a choice that would cost him everything and yet save an entire people.
"Samson took hold of the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and braced himself against them, one on his right hand and the other on his left." And Samson said, 'Let me die with the Philistines.' Then he bowed with all his strength, and the house fell upon the lords and upon all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he had killed during his life." Judges 16:29-30
Samson willingly gave his life so that the Israelites could be delivered from their enemies. And at his death, more people were freed than had been freed during his entire lifetime. Does that sound familiar? It should. Because this is exactly what Jesus did for you and me. At the death of Jesus, more people were saved than at any other moment in human history.
This was not a coincidence. Samson's life was a shadow, a reflection, pointing forward to the greater deliverer who was coming. He is what theologians call a "type" of Christ.
Jesus Chose the Cross
It is absolutely vital that we understand this: Jesus was not a victim. No one took His life from Him. He laid it down, freely and willingly, for a greater cause than anyone could fully comprehend.
"For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my own life so that I may take it back. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father." John 10:17-18
Jesus had complete authority over His own life. He submitted to the cross not out of weakness but out of extraordinary love and purpose. He chose you. He chose your freedom. He chose life for you over comfort for Himself.
The cross was not an accident. It was a decision made out of love for you.
The Good Shepherd and the Thief
Jesus also gave us an incredibly clear picture of who He is and who the enemy is, so that we would never confuse the two.
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:10 -11
Let this settle deep in your heart. God is not the author of your sickness. God is not the source of your loss, your pain, or your destruction. That is the work of the enemy. Some people have been taught that God permits sickness or sends suffering as punishment, but the Word of God is clear. The thief steals. The thief kills. The thief destroys. But Jesus? Jesus comes to give life, and give it abundantly.
Anything in your life that carries the fingerprint of death, lack, or destruction is not from God. And because Jesus is life itself, that dead situation must bow to His name.
Life, Light, and Love
The Gospel of John can be beautifully understood in three movements.
Chapters 1 through 7 are about life.
Chapters 8 through 12 are about light.
Chapters 13 through 21 are about love.
Life, light, and love. That is not just a description of Jesus. That is the lifestyle He has called us to carry.
"In him was life, and the life was the light of men.The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:4-5
In Him is life. Not a little life, not a struggling life, but the very foundation of all life. And that life becomes light for everyone around you. Wherever you go, you carry life. Wherever you go, you carry light. Wherever you go, you share love. This is who you are because of what Jesus has done.
You were not made to merely survive. You were made to carry the life of God wherever you go.
Today, let this truth anchor you. Jesus came with purpose, with power, and with love. He did not come to allow suffering. He came to give you life, the fullest, richest, most glorious kind of life there is. And that life is available to you right now.
Conclusion
Just as Samson gave his life so others could live, Jesus willingly laid down His life so that you could be fully alive. He did not come to permit your pain. He came to pour out His life into yours. The thief may have come to steal, kill, and destroy, but the Good Shepherd has already won. Life, light, and love are your inheritance. Walk in them today.
Reflect on This
In what areas of your life have you unknowingly blamed God for what the enemy has actually done?
How does understanding that Jesus willingly chose the cross change the way you see His love for you personally?
Prayer
Father, I thank You that Jesus willingly laid down His life for me. I declare that I am covered by the love of the Good Shepherd, and no weapon formed against me shall prosper. I receive life, light, and love as my daily portion. The thief has no authority over my home, my health, or my future. I walk in the abundant life that Jesus came to give me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Key Takeaways
Jesus voluntarily chose the cross out of love, making Him the ultimate fulfillment of what Samson's life foreshadowed.
God is never the source of sickness, loss, or destruction; those are marks of the enemy, not the Father.
Jesus came specifically to give you abundant life, not a limited or suffering existence.
Life, light, and love are the three dimensions of the lifestyle every believer is called to carry into the world.
