There are moments in life when everything around you seems to be pressing in at once. The problems stack up. The situation feels unmanageable. And in those moments, the temptation is to look for a solution from every direction possible from people, from systems, from resources, from anything that might offer relief. But this morning, there is one truth that needs to settle deep into your spirit: what you need most is not a solution from the outside. What you need is the voice of God.
When God Thunders, Something Has to Change
Open your Bible to Job 37:5, and you will find these remarkable words:
"God's voice thunders in marvellous ways. He does great things beyond our understanding." Job 37:5
God thunders wondrously. Say that again to yourself. God thunders wondrously. When that thunder comes when the word of God arrives in your situation something has to change. It cannot stay the same. Just as thunder in the natural world announces what is coming, the word of God announces the arrival of something greater than your circumstances. He does great things that you have never seen. He does great things that you have never heard. He does great things that you have never imagined. But one thing is certain: when God does something, it will be great.
The Voice of the Lord Is Over Your Waters
Turn to Psalm 29:3, and notice what it says:
"The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters." Psalm 29:3
When the Bible talks about waters, it is often speaking about the kinds of situations that press against you problems that rise against your family, challenges that seem to surround you on every side. And this verse is telling you something powerful: the voice of the Lord is not under those waters. It is not beside those waters. It is over the waters.
And if you feel like you have many problems many waters hear this: the God of glory thunders over many waters. He is not overwhelmed by the number of your difficulties. He thunders over all of them at once.
Pair that with the promise in Isaiah 43:2, and the picture becomes even clearer:
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you." Isaiah 43:2
That is a covenant promise. It does not say you will never face waters. It does not say you will never walk near fire. But it says: when you pass through, I will be with you. When the rivers rise, they will not overwhelm you. When the flames surround you, you will not be burned.
His Presence Is the Answer
God is with you right now. God is with your children right now. God is with your family right now.
The voice of the Lord is over your problem. The God of glory thunders over your situation.
The presence of God breaks every yoke. The presence of God helps you overcome every flood of difficulty. The painful trials, the anxiety, the seasons of darkness when the word of God comes into those places, it works. It produces wonders. It does not come back void.
And here is the truth that needs to take root in your heart this morning: you do not need to wait for some external change to believe that God has spoken. When you receive the promise of God, that promise is like thunder. And when the thunder comes, the rain will follow. The change will follow. The breakthrough will follow. Because the word of God cannot go void. It will do what it was sent to do.
When you believe in the word of God, it comes like thunder. And when the thunder comes, it will produce something in your life.
Conclusion
Whatever you are walking through today, the voice of the Lord is over it. The God of glory is not silent in your situation. He thunders wondrously, and that thunder is carrying a promise with your name on it. His word has been released over your problem. His presence is covering your family. His promise cannot fail. Hold on to what He has said. Believe it. Speak it. Because the thunder always comes before the rain — and the rain is coming.
Reflect on This
Is there a promise from God that you received in the past but have stopped actively believing? What would it look like to let that word thunder over your situation again today?
When you face "many waters" multiple pressures at once where do you instinctively turn first? How might Psalm 29:3 change the order in which you respond to difficulty?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your voice thunders wondrously over every situation in my life. I declare that Your word is active over my problems right now. I declare that when I pass through the waters, You are with me, and they will not overwhelm me. I declare that the flames will not consume me because Your presence covers me. I receive Your promise today as thunder in my spirit, and I trust that it will produce every breakthrough I need. Your word will not go void. In Jesus' name, Amen.
