Today, we'll explore how maintaining our focus on Jesus and His finished work transforms our lives. When we keep our eyes fixed on God's promises rather than our problems, we position ourselves to receive all He has already provided for us.
The Power of Focused Attention
Our journey begins with understanding where our focus should be directed. As believers, we're called to fix our eyes on Jesus and what He has accomplished, not on our circumstances.
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God." - Hebrews 12:1-2
Jesus Himself modeled this focused attention. Even while enduring the cross, He concentrated not on His present suffering but on what His sacrifice would accomplish: our reconciliation with the Father. This singular focus enabled Him to endure unimaginable pain.
The Joy of the Lord as Our Strength
In times of challenge, we find encouragement in Nehemiah's words to the people of Israel:
"Then he said to them, 'Go your way, eat the fat, drink sweet wine, and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.'" - Nehemiah 8:10
The people rejoiced because they understood God's Word. They grasped the promises and accepted them as truth. This understanding produced joy, and that joy became their strength.
The key to your strength lies within you: it's the joy that comes from trusting God completely.
This joy springs from knowing who you are in Christ: the centerpiece of the Trinity, surrounded by Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It's the joy of knowing God became man for you, that Jesus broke the power of darkness and death, that you're connected to the Mighty God Himself, and that you're seated with Him in heavenly places. When you truly understand these truths, you rejoice, and that joy produces strength for your body and soul.
Peter's Water-Walking Lesson
Consider Peter's experience when Jesus invited him to walk on water:
"He said, 'Come.' So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, 'Lord, save me!'" - Matthew 14:29-30
As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he accomplished the impossible. But when he noticed the wind, fear replaced faith, and he began to sink. The moment his focus shifted from Jesus to his circumstances, his miracle started to disappear.
This pattern repeats in our lives. We believe God's promises initially, but then we get distracted by worsening conditions, doctors' reports, financial pressures, or family issues. When our focus shifts from God's promises to our problems, we begin to sink.
God's Will to Heal
Many believers, even those with years of ministry experience, pray, "Lord, if it's Your will, heal them." This hesitation reveals a distraction from God's clear promise. God has declared it is His will to heal everyone.
"By His stripes we are healed." - Isaiah 53:5
When someone asked Jesus, "If it's Your will, heal me," Jesus responded, "It is My will." God's will to heal is not in question; it's established in His Word. Healing is your inheritance. Don't give up believing, even when circumstances suggest otherwise.
The Simple Prayer of Faith
When Peter began to sink, he didn't pray, "Lord, if it's Your will, save me." He simply cried, "Lord, save me!" He knew with certainty that it was God's will to save him.
"Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him." - Matthew 14:31
This simple three-word prayer demonstrates complete trust in God's willingness to help. Nothing can drown you when you call on Jesus. His hand will hold you through every problem.
Your Will Matters
When it comes to salvation, no one says, "If it's Your will, let me be saved." We understand God's will in that area. Yet with healing, prosperity, and emotional wholeness, we often question His will.
The issue isn't God's willingness but yours. Are you willing to surrender and admit that God can do what He promised? Are you willing to change how you think about God? Are you willing to pray like Peter, "Lord, save me"? Are you willing to accept His outstretched hand?
God is not a human who tells lies. If He has said something, it must happen.
Conclusion
God is always willing, always loving, and always listening. His hand is not too short to save. He is ready to reach out to you, just as He did for Peter. The question is: will you keep your focus on Him rather than on your problems?
Your body is the temple of the living God. When God dwells in you, nothing can prevail against you. Nothing broken, nothing missing, nothing lacking. The power of His anointing flows from the top of your head to the soles of your feet, bringing healing to every part of your being.
Reflect on This
What distractions have caused you to take your eyes off Jesus and His promises in your current situation?
How can you practically maintain your focus on God's promises rather than your problems today?
Prayer
Father, I thank You that You are always willing, always loving, and always listening. I choose today to focus on Your promises rather than my problems. I repent for questioning Your willingness to heal, save, and deliver. I declare that nothing can distract me from Your truth. Your hand is not too short to save, and I willingly receive Your outstretched hand in every area of my life. I am healed, I am whole, I am victorious because You dwell in me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
