Today, let's reflect on one of the most powerful practices that can transform your faith and propel you into your next season of breakthrough. This isn't just about looking back; it's about building a foundation of faith that will carry you forward into all that God has prepared for you. Get ready to unlock the door to your next level through the simple yet profound act of remembering.
The Disease of Forgetfulness
If you asked me what the worst disease in this world is, I would tell you it's forgetfulness. Many people say that forgetfulness is a national disease, and they're not wrong. When forgetfulness takes hold of your life, all the good things that have happened to you simply vanish from your memory. The people who helped you are forgotten. This disease creates a sense of loneliness, making you feel as though no one has ever been there for you.
Forgetfulness robs you of your testimony. It steals your confidence in God's faithfulness. It makes you feel isolated and abandoned, even when you've been surrounded by God's provision and the support of His people. But there is a cure for this spiritual ailment.
The Medicine of Remembering
The cure for forgetfulness is remembering. When you intentionally recall the good things that have happened in your life over the past 12 months, when you remember how much goodness the Lord has done, how many blessings God has poured out, and how many times He has sent help through people, you begin to see a pattern of faithfulness. Yet so often, we forget these precious moments.
Right now, take a moment to think back from January to this December. Recall the grace the Lord has shown you, the gifts He has given you, and the goodness He has poured into your life. Why is it so important to remember these blessings? Why should we never forget them? Because when you remember God's goodness, you position yourself to move into your next level. Remembering isn't just nostalgia; it's a spiritual weapon that launches you forward.
David's Testimony of Past Victories
The Bible gives us a powerful example of this principle in action.
"The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine." Saul said to David, "Go, and the Lord be with you." - 1 Samuel 17:37
David declared to King Saul that when he was tending sheep, God delivered him from a lion and from a bear. He fought and defeated these predators to protect his flock. Then David made a bold declaration: the God who saved me then will help me defeat this Philistine, Goliath, now.
The God who did it yesterday will do it today.
David moved to his next level because he remembered God's faithfulness. He conquered Goliath because he didn't forget the lion and the bear. While everyone else looked at the giant and trembled with fear, David looked at his history with God and stepped forward with confidence.
Fear Versus Faith in Difficult Circumstances
In life, many people become afraid when they look at their circumstances. They worry about what might happen, what could go wrong, or what challenges might be coming. Some fear lockdowns, economic downturns, or personal crises. But when you trust in the Lord, you can say something different.
You can declare, "I faced a lion once, and I won. I faced a bear, and I conquered. A problem came, and I overcame it. In the name of Jesus, I can face every problem. I can be victorious in all things." You can speak this way when you remember the grace the Lord has shown you and the goodness He has done in your life. When you recall His faithfulness, the path to your next level becomes clear, and you step into the next season of blessing.
From Shepherd to King
David went from being a shepherd boy to becoming a king. This is your time to live as royalty in Christ. This is your time to move to the next level. But how can you get there? By remembering the goodness the Lord has done from January through December. When you remember His faithfulness, you position yourself for victory in your life.
Give thanks to the Lord. Reflect on His mercies. Let gratitude fill your heart, and watch as He opens doors you never imagined possible.
Conclusion
As you close this meditation, embrace the truth that remembering God's goodness is not optional; it's essential for your spiritual growth and breakthrough. Your past victories are the foundation for your future triumphs. Don't let forgetfulness steal your testimony or your confidence in God. Instead, let remembrance fuel your faith and propel you into the abundant life He has promised. The God who was faithful yesterday is faithful today and will be faithful tomorrow.
