Boy flies in Rocket
God deliberately chooses overlooked people and impossible situations to display His greatest miracles.

There is something powerful about standing at the edge of what seems impossible and choosing to believe anyway. Today, we are stepping into a truth that has the power to shift how you see every closed door, every barren season, and every situation that looks like a dead end. God has not forgotten you. In fact, He may be setting the stage for something extraordinary.

When the Angel of the Lord Shows Up

We open our hearts today in the book of Judges, chapter 13, where we find a man named Manoah and his wife living in Zorah. The Bible tells us something simple but deeply significant about this couple.

"In those days a man named Manoah from the tribe of Dan lived in the town of Zorah. His wife was unable to become pregnant and they had no children. The angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah's wife and said, 'Even though you have been unable to have children, you will soon become pregnant and give birth to a son.'" Judges 13:2-3

Now, this is not just a story about a barren woman. This is a story about divine interruption. The Angel of the Lord appeared, and everything changed. It is important to understand who this Angel of the Lord actually is. Throughout the Old Testament, whenever the Bible refers to "the Angel of the Lord," it is referring to Jesus Himself. Not a created angel, but Christ, present and active long before He walked the earth in human form.

You can see this in the burning bush encounter:

"There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush." Exodus 3:2

Jesus was present. He was moving. He was speaking. If He could do all of these things for people under the old covenant, imagine what He can do for you today, covered by His blood.

The same Jesus who opened a barren womb in Judges is the same Jesus standing with you right now.

The Prophecy Spoken Before Birth

The angel did not stop at simply announcing the pregnancy. He went further and declared the destiny of the child not yet conceived.

"You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and his hair must never be cut. For he will be dedicated to God as a Nazirite from birth. He will begin to rescue Israel from the Philistines." Judges 13:5

This is stunning. A prophecy spoken before birth, declaring that this child would save Israel. In all of Scripture, there are only two instances where a prophecy like this was spoken before someone was born. One was for Samson, and the other was for Jesus.

"She will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." Matthew 1:21

The parallel is breathtaking. Both births were medically impossible. Both children were announced before conception. Both were called to save people. Samson's life was designed from the very beginning to be a reflection, a type and shadow, of Jesus Christ.

If God can fulfill a prophecy through an impossible birth, He can fulfill every promise He has spoken over your life.

His Name Is Wonderful

As the story continues, Manoah, wanting to know more, asked the angel a direct question.

"Then Manoah asked the angel of the Lord, 'What is your name? For when all this comes true, we want to honor you.'" Judges 13:17

The response was extraordinary.

"Why do you ask my name? The angel of the Lord replied. It is too wonderful for you to understand." Judges 13:18

Wonderful. That word did not land by accident. It is the very same name given to Jesus in the prophecy of Isaiah.

"For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

When the Angel of the Lord said His name was Wonderful, He was pointing directly to who He was. Jesus, the Wonderful One, was present in the life of this family long before Bethlehem. And He is present in your life today. He is the God who does wonders. His name alone carries the promise that what He brings into your story will be wonderful.

His name is Wonderful, and that means what He is about to do in your life will be beyond what you can fully understand.

The Barren Season Does Not Define You

Think about this. The tribe of Dan was the tribe no one wanted to be associated with. They were not the tribe with the great reputation or the celebrated history. Yet God looked at that tribe and said, I will produce a deliverer from here. He will not just be a judge. He will reflect the life of my Son.

Samson was born from a barren womb, raised from a forgotten tribe, and called to do what seemed impossible. And God did it anyway.

This is your encouragement today. Your barren season, the place where life has not produced what you hoped for, the area where people have written you off or where circumstances seem locked shut, is exactly the kind of place God loves to work. He makes the barren fruitful. He takes the overlooked and promotes them. He takes the impossible situation and turns it into the miracle that no one can deny.

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us." Ephesians 3:20

Conclusion

Today, let this truth settle deep into your heart. Jesus, the Angel of the Lord, the Wonderful One, is not a distant figure from ancient stories. He is the same God who showed up in Zorah, who opened a womb that medicine had closed, who spoke a destiny over a child before the child even existed. He is with you right now. He sees your impossible situation. He knows the promise He has spoken over your life. And He is more than able to bring it to pass. Do not let the barrenness of a season make you forget the faithfulness of your God.

Reflect on This

  1. What "barren" area in your life are you being invited to trust God with today, believing that He can do the impossible?

  2. How does knowing that Jesus was present and active throughout the Old Testament strengthen your confidence in His presence with you right now?

Prayer

Father, I thank You that You are the God of the impossible. I declare that every barren place in my life is already touched by Your hand. I receive the promise that You have spoken over me, and I believe that what You have begun, You will complete. You are the Wonderful One, and I trust that what You are doing in my life will be beyond what I can fully comprehend. Stir my heart to believe without limit. In Jesus Name, Amen.
