A Large Tree by the river
Rooted in God's love, will remain green and vibrant

Have you ever felt like a grasshopper, small and insignificant in the face of giants? Have you listened to the whispers of fear and doubt, allowing them to shape your reality? Today, we'll meditate into a powerful message from Numbers 14 and Jeremiah 17, exploring how unwavering faith in God's promises can transform our perspective and empower us to live victoriously. Join me as we meditate on the unwavering truth of God's Word and discover how to remain deeply rooted in His love, regardless of the storms we face.

The Burdened Heart of God (Numbers 14:11)

"And the Lord said to Moses, ‘How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they never believe me, even after all the miraculous signs I have done among them?’" (Numbers 14:11)

This verse reveals a profound truth: God, our loving Father, is not indifferent to our unbelief. He deeply desires a relationship of trust with us, and when we doubt His promises and fail to rely on His goodness, it grieves Him. Think about it – the Israelites witnessed incredible miracles in Egypt and the wilderness, yet they still struggled to believe God's promise of a land flowing with milk and honey. Their doubt not only prevented them from experiencing the fullness of God's blessing but also caused a burden on His heart. While we are now under the New Covenant, where Jesus scarified his own life for our sins, our unbelief still impacts our relationship with our Heavenly Father. He longs for us to walk in the fullness of His blessings – healing, prosperity, righteousness, and holiness – but these blessings are often hindered by our own limiting beliefs.

"Surely all the men who have seen my glory and my miraculous signs which I have performed in Egypt and in the wilderness yet have put me to test these ten times and have not listened to my voice." (Numbers 14:22)

This verse challenges us to consider whose voice we are truly listening to. When we fail to prioritize God's voice – the voice of truth, love, and unwavering faithfulness – we become susceptible to a cacophony of other voices vying for our attention.

"Sometimes your bank account will speak… Sometimes when you go to the doctor and reports from the doctors will speak…"

These voices, whether from our finances, our health, or the world around us, can be incredibly persuasive. The voice of lack whispers, "You'll never have enough." The voice of fear warns, "Something terrible is going to happen." The voice of the world declares, "You are a failure." These voices, while seemingly powerful, are not the ultimate authority in our lives. We must actively choose to resist these negative influences and instead, cultivate a discerning ear that recognizes and prioritizes the voice of God.

The Blessedness of Trust (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes, but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit." (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

This powerful passage from Jeremiah paints a vivid picture of the blessed life that awaits those who choose to place their trust in God. This isn't a passive, wishful thinking kind of trust, but an active, unwavering reliance on His Word. It's a belief so deeply rooted that it permeates every aspect of our being, influencing our thoughts, emotions, and actions.

"Believe the word, trust the word, and rely on the word."

Our hope and confident expectation should be anchored in the Lord. This isn't a naive optimism, but a confident assurance based not on our own abilities or fluctuating circumstances, but on the unchanging character and faithfulness of our God.

"Our hope and confident expectation is the Lord… We are the blessed one."

The analogy of the tree planted by the water is rich with meaning. Like a tree drawing constant nourishment from a life-giving source, we too can thrive, even when the "heat" comes. The heat represents the inevitable trials, challenges, and difficulties that life throws our way. While others may wither and falter under pressure, we, rooted in God's love, will remain green and vibrant, drawing strength and resilience from our deep connection to Him.

"When the heat comes… I will not fear… because I am rooted in the word of God."

Even in seasons of "drought" – those times of lack, hardship, or uncertainty – we will not be anxious. The drought symbolizes those periods where resources seem scarce, where the future looks bleak, and where fear threatens to overwhelm us. But because our source of nourishment is not dependent on external circumstances, but on the Living Water, Jesus Christ, we will continue to bear fruit, regardless of what's happening around us.

"I will not be anxious… I don't need to be anxious because I'm rooted in the word of God… I trust in the blood of Jesus."

The blood of Jesus represents the ultimate sacrifice that has cleansed us from sin and empowered us to live victoriously. It is through His sacrifice that we have access to this unwavering peace and confidence, even amidst the storms of life.

Conclusion:

Choosing to trust in God's promises is a daily decision. It's a choice to silence the voices of fear and doubt and instead, meditate on the truth of His Word. As we root ourselves deeply in His love, we will experience the blessed life He has promised – a life of security, nourishment, and abundant fruitfulness.

Reflect on This:

  1. What voices are you currently listening to? Are they aligning with God's promises for your life?

  2. How can you practically apply the analogy of the tree planted by the water to your daily life?

Prayer:

Father, I thank you for your unwavering promises. I declare that I am rooted in your Word, and my trust is in you alone. I will not fear when the heat comes, for my leaves will remain green and moist. I will not be anxious in times of drought, for I will continue to bear fruit. I believe that you are my provider, my healer, and my protector. Thank you for the abundant life you have given me through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Key Takeaways:

  • God is burdened by our unbelief and longs for us to trust in His promises.

  • We must actively resist the negative voices of fear, doubt, and lack.

  • True blessedness comes from placing our complete trust in the Lord.

  • Like a tree planted by the water, we will flourish even in challenging circumstances.

  • We will bear fruit in every season because our source is the Living Water, Jesus Christ.
