Ashes
God specializes in turning ashes into beauty and rebuilding what seems irreparably damaged.

Today, let's explore a powerful truth that can transform your perspective on life's challenges. When circumstances seem hopeless, when dreams appear shattered, when promises feel forgotten, remember this: what looks dead may simply be sleeping, waiting for the right moment to awaken.

The Battle of Belief

In Mark 5, Jesus approaches a situation that seemed beyond hope. A young girl had died, and mourners were weeping. Yet Jesus declared,

"Why all this grief and weeping? Don't you know the girl is not dead but merely asleep." - Mark 5:39

The response? They laughed at him.

This reaction reveals a profound truth about our spiritual journey. When facing seemingly impossible situations, we often encounter two opposing forces: faith and unbelief. The mourners represented the voice of unbelief, the certainty that death is final, that some losses can never be recovered.

"Your dream is not dead, your promise is not dead, your blessing is not dead. Whatever you think you have lost is not dead, it's asleep, and it will awaken in the name of Jesus."

What did Jesus do when confronted with unbelief? The text tells us "he threw them all outside." The Greek word used here, ekballo, is the same word used for driving out demons. It implies a forceful action of authority. Jesus recognized that unbelief creates an atmosphere where miracles cannot flourish.

Renewing Your Mind

The battlefield where this struggle between faith and unbelief takes place is your mind. The enemy's primary strategy is to attack your thoughts, planting seeds of doubt, fear, and negativity.

"These days your battle is in the mind. The enemy tries to say you won't get this back, your healing isn't coming, your situation is hopeless."

Like astronauts journeying to the moon who must make constant course corrections, we must daily realign our thinking with God's Word. Every morning, declare God's promises over your life. Remove the question marks the enemy places after God's promises and replace them with periods, making them definitive statements of truth rather than subjects of doubt.

This mental renewal isn't just spiritual, it affects your physical wellbeing too. You'll experience better sleep, peace, and even physical healing when you guard your mind against negative thoughts.

Beauty from Ashes

Isaiah offers a stunning promise:

"To grant to those who mourn in Zion—to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit." - Isaiah 61:3

Ashes represent the final state after death, when something is not just dead but burned and reduced to nothing. Yet God specializes in creating beauty from ashes, joy from mourning, praise from heaviness.

"Ashes is not your state, beauty is your state."

When circumstances seem beyond recovery, remember that God can restore what seems completely destroyed. Put on the garment of praise instead of carrying the burden of heaviness. Turn on music and dance before the Lord like David did, unconcerned about others' opinions.

Rebuilding Ancient Ruins

Isaiah continues says:

"They shall build up the ancient ruins, they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations." - Isaiah 61:4

This promise extends beyond immediate restoration to generational healing. Whatever has been broken in your family, your health, your relationships can be rebuilt. The damage may be ancient, the ruins may be extensive, but God is the God of generations, and He can restore what has been devastated for ages.

"It's easy to build something new, but people think it's really hard to rebuild something already ruined. But God is the God who works miracles and wonders."

Conclusion

Whatever appears dead in your life, dreams, relationships, health, promises is merely sleeping. By removing unbelief, renewing your mind with God's Word, putting on the garment of praise, and believing in God's restorative power, you'll witness resurrection in areas you thought were beyond hope.

Stand firm in your faith. Declare life over what seems dead. Believe that God is working even when you can't see it. Your situation is not beyond His reach, it's simply awaiting His touch to awaken.

Reflect on This

  1. What area in your life have you labeled as "dead" that God might be saying is merely "sleeping"?

  2. How can you practically remove unbelief from your thinking and replace it with faith-filled declarations today?

Prayer

Father, I declare that nothing in my life is beyond Your resurrection power. I remove all unbelief from my mind and heart right now. I put on the garment of praise instead of heaviness. I believe that You are turning my ashes into beauty, my mourning into joy. What seems dead is merely sleeping, and I speak life to every dormant promise, dream, and blessing. I stand in faith, knowing that You are rebuilding ancient ruins and restoring what seemed lost forever. In Jesus' name, I receive the manifestation of Your promises as already fulfilled in my life. Amen.
