Man thinking
We must intentionally filter what enters our minds, rejecting thoughts and words that contradict God's promises.

Today, let's explore the power of unwavering faith in the face of challenges. When circumstances seem impossible and reports are negative, our faith can make all the difference. Prepare to be encouraged as we discover how to maintain belief even when everything around us suggests otherwise.

Refusing Negative Reports

In Mark 5, we encounter a powerful story that teaches us about maintaining faith during difficult times. Jesus was on His way to heal the daughter of Jairus, a synagogue official, when He was interrupted by a woman who had been suffering from a flow of blood for twelve years.

While Jesus was still speaking with this woman who had just received her healing, messengers arrived with devastating news for Jairus:

"Your daughter has died; why bother the Teacher any longer?" - Mark 5:35

This represents the negative reports we often receive in life, the bad news, the discouraging prognosis, the impossible situation. But Jesus' response reveals a powerful principle:

"Overhearing what was being said, Jesus said to the synagogue official, 'Do not be afraid, only keep on believing in Me and My power.'" - Mark 5:36

Jesus refused to listen to the negative report. He filtered what entered His mind and immediately countered fear with faith. This teaches us that sometimes we need to practice "holy deafness", deliberately choosing not to receive words that contradict God's promises.

The Choice to Believe

The woman with the issue of blood had already demonstrated the power of determined faith. After suffering for twelve years and spending all she had on physicians who couldn't help her, she still believed that touching Jesus' garment would heal her.

"Daughter, your faith—your personal trust and confidence in Me—has restored you to health. Go in peace and be permanently healed from your suffering." - Mark 5:34

Notice that Jesus credited her faith for the healing. Though the power came from Him, it was her faith that activated it. She received a permanent healing, not temporary relief, but complete restoration.

This teaches us that while God provides the power, we must choose to receive it through faith. The healing is available, the blessing is prepared, but our faith is the conduit through which it flows into our lives.

Maintaining Faith Through Delays

Consider Jairus's position during this entire encounter. His daughter was at the point of death, yet Jesus stopped to address another person's need. Then, while waiting, he received the worst possible news, his daughter had died.

How often do we feel that our urgent needs are being overlooked or delayed? How frequently do we receive bad news while waiting for our breakthrough?

The key is to respond as Jesus instructed: "Do not fear, only believe." Don't yield to fear, yield to faith. Keep swimming, keep believing, even when something appears dead or impossible.

Testimonies Build Faith

When we witness miracles in others' lives, it should strengthen our faith, not make us jealous or doubtful. If you're praying for a house and someone else receives one, praise God for their blessing! Their testimony provides evidence that God can and will do the same for you.

"Before he had finished speaking, some people came from the synagogue official's house, saying to Jairus, 'Your daughter has died; why bother the Teacher any longer?'" - Mark 5:35

Testimonies of God's faithfulness should give us confidence, hope, and assurance for our future. They remind us that if God did it for someone else, He can certainly do it for us.

Filtering What Enters Your Mind

Just as Jesus refused to listen to the negative report, we must be intentional about what we allow into our minds. If the television broadcasts negativity, turn it off. If certain friendships consistently speak death and discouragement, it may be necessary to create some distance.

The enemy often fills our minds with thoughts like: "You don't have a future," "Look at how others your age are succeeding while you're failing," or even suicidal thoughts. We must reject these lies and replace them with God's truth.

Instead of saying, "I'll only live for two more years if things continue like this," declare, "In two years' time, I will see these circumstances change completely!" Use your words as weapons of faith, not fear.

Conclusion

No situation is beyond hope as long as you believe. The victory has already been won by Jesus, you're simply facing a battle that's already been settled in the heavenly realm. The blessing is yours, the healing is yours, the breakthrough is yours—if you will only believe.

Don't yield to fear; yield to faith. Keep your mind focused on God's promises rather than on negative circumstances. Refuse to listen to discouraging reports, and instead, fill your imagination with the truth of God's Word.

Reflect on This

  1. What negative reports or thoughts have you been allowing to shape your expectations? How can you practice "holy deafness" toward these messages?

  2. In what area of your life do you need to apply Jesus' words, "Do not fear, only believe"? What would believing look like in practical terms?

Prayer

Father, I thank You that nothing is over as long as I believe in You. I refuse to yield to fear and choose instead to keep believing. I declare that the victory is already mine through Christ. Where situations appear dead or impossible in my life, I trust Your resurrection power to bring new life. I filter my thoughts through Your Word and reject every negative report that contradicts Your promises. My faith is activated, and I receive the blessings You have prepared for me. In Jesus' name, I am permanently healed, completely restored, and walking in peace. Jesus' name, Amen.
