Today, let's explore the transformative power of our desires. God has placed within us the ability to dream, envision, and pursue meaningful aspirations. This isn't just about wishing for things; it's about recognizing the divine connection between our deepest desires and God's provision in our lives.
The Power of Asking
Throughout Scripture, we see a consistent pattern: God asks us what we want. When Jesus encountered the blind man in Mark, He asked a simple yet profound question: "What do you want me to do for you?" This wasn't because Jesus didn't know, it was because He wanted the man to articulate his desire.
"What do you want me to do for you?" - Mark 10:51
This question reveals something fundamental about our relationship with God. He respects our ability to choose, to desire, and to ask. He doesn't force His will upon us like we're robots. From the Garden of Eden, God gave mankind the power of choice, the ability to decide what we want.
When we approach God with clear desires, we position ourselves to receive. It's like going to a restaurant with a menu full of options. If you sit there without ordering, you'll leave hungry. But when you choose something specific, it can be prepared and brought to you.
Beyond Excuses
In John 5, Jesus approached a man who had been ill for 38 years. Rather than immediately healing him, Jesus asked, "Do you want to get well?" The man responded with excuses about why he couldn't reach the healing waters.
"When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, 'Do you want to get well?'" - John 5:6
How often do we respond to God's invitation with excuses? "I want to be healed, but..." "I desire to grow my business, but..." "I want to serve in ministry, but..." We focus on our limitations rather than God's unlimited power.
God is asking you today: What do you want? Not what you think is possible based on your resources, education, or background, but what do you truly desire? Your desires matter to God.
Desires That Define Us
When God appeared to Solomon in a dream and said,
"Ask for whatever you want me to give you" (1 Kings 3:5)
Solomon was ready with his answer. Even in his sleep, he knew what mattered most to him, wisdom to lead God's people.
This teaches us something crucial: our desires should be so deeply rooted that they define us. If someone woke you up in the middle of the night and asked what you want most in life, would you have a clear answer?
High-quality desires produce high-quality lives. When we align our desires with God's purposes, we position ourselves for blessing. The Scripture tells us that "the desire of the righteous will be granted." If we have no desires, there's nothing to be granted.
The Feast Before Us
The Christian life isn't about scarcity or uncertainty. It's not about hoping for crumbs from someone else's table. God has prepared a feast for us, a table set in the presence of our enemies.
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies." - Psalm 23:5
Many believers live far below their privileges because they don't understand who they are in Christ. They use God as a Savior but never experience Him as Lord and Father. They don't realize that whatever the Father has is available to His children.
Conclusion
Today, embrace the power of godly desires. Allow God's Word to renew your mind and ignite holy ambitions within you. Don't settle for less when God is asking, "What do you want me to give you?"
Stop looking at your limitations, your bank account, your abilities, your background. Look instead at the One who is asking the question. He is your source, your healer, your redeemer, your father. He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.
Reflect on This
What specific desires has God placed in your heart that you've been hesitant to pursue because of perceived limitations?
How might your life change if you began to articulate your desires with clarity and faith, believing that God wants to fulfill them?
Prayer
Father, I thank You for the power of desire You've placed within me. I declare that my desires are aligned with Your purposes. I will no longer make excuses or focus on my limitations. Today, I choose to articulate my desires with clarity and faith, knowing that You delight in fulfilling the desires of those who fear You. I am Your child, seated with Christ in heavenly places, and I have access to everything I need for life and godliness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
