Rejoice in the Lord always! Today, we embark on a journey of spiritual awakening, exploring the profound transformation from lifelessness to vibrant life in Christ. This meditation delves into Ezekiel 37, reminding us of God's power to breathe life into seemingly hopeless situations and our identity as His beloved children.
The Breath of Life
"So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath came into them. They lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army." (Ezekiel 37:10)
This powerful imagery speaks to the transformative power of God's word and Spirit. Just as the dry bones were once lifeless, we too can experience spiritual dryness, feeling distant from God and devoid of His power. But through the breath of God, the Holy Spirit, we are resurrected into new life. What picture do we choose to frame in our minds? One of dry bones, representing defeat and hopelessness, or one of a mighty army, symbolizing strength, victory, and God's power at work in our lives? Even in challenging circumstances, we are called to speak life, to breathe life through prayer and declarations of faith, and release the Spirit of God into our situations. We must believe that God can bring life out of any situation, no matter how hopeless it may seem.
"When we release God's Spirit and speak life, even the driest bones can be resurrected into something powerful and extraordinary. Witness this mighty army, a testament to God's transformative power."
This is not just about survival; it's about becoming an "exceedingly great army." God's restoration is not merely about getting by; it's about being empowered for His purposes, equipped to fulfill His call on our lives.
From Dry Bones to Sons of God
Our identity in Christ is not one of dry bones, defined by death and decay, but of sonship, characterized by life, inheritance, and intimate relationship with God. We are no longer defined by our past, our failures, or our circumstances. Our identity is now rooted in Christ. Galatians 3:26 declares this transformative truth:
"So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith," (Galatians 3:26)
Through faith in Jesus Christ, our position has fundamentally changed. We have moved from a place of separation from God to a place of intimate connection. We are no longer slaves to sin, bound by its power and condemned by its consequences. Instead, we have become heirs of God's promises, recipients of His grace and favor.
"for as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:27)
Baptism symbolizes this profound change. It represents our identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. When we are baptized, we are "putting on Christ," clothing ourselves in His righteousness and embracing our new identity as His children. This is not a passive act; it requires a conscious choice to live a life that reflects our new identity in Christ.
"Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”" (Galatians 4:6)
We can now address the Almighty God as "Abba, Father," a term of endearment used by children for their fathers. This signifies a deep, personal connection with God, a relationship of love, trust, and acceptance. The indwelling Holy Spirit empowers us to call God our Father, assuring us of our belonging and our inheritance in Him. This is a privilege that was not available to believers in the Old Testament, who approached God with reverence and awe as servants. Through Christ, we have been granted access to the Father's heart.
The Righteousness of God
Remember the profound exchange that took place on the cross. On that day, God saw us in Christ. Jesus, who knew no sin, willingly took upon Himself the weight of our sins, our sicknesses, and our curses. He became sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God.
"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (2 Corinthians 5:21)
This exchange is the very foundation of our new life in Christ. We are no longer defined by our past mistakes, our failures, or our shortcomings. Instead, we are clothed in the perfect righteousness of Christ. This is not our own righteousness, earned through good works or religious observance, but a gift freely given through faith in Jesus. It is this imputed righteousness that allows us to stand before God blameless and accepted.
"so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
The transformative power of this exchange. We are not merely forgiven; we are made righteous in Christ. This changes everything about how we see ourselves and how we relate to God.
Heirs of God's Promises
As sons and daughters of God, we are not only recipients of His love and acceptance but also heirs to His promises. Galatians 4:7 affirms this incredible truth:
"So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir." (Galatians 4:7)
We are no longer bound by the limitations of our old nature, the chains of sin and the fear of condemnation. We are free to walk in the fullness of God's blessings, to experience His abundant provision and His supernatural power. Every promise in God's Word is now ours to claim, not through our own merit but through the finished work of Christ.
Conclusion
Embrace the truth of your identity as a son of God. Let the breath of the Holy Spirit revive and empower you to live a life of victory and abundance. You are not dry bones; you are a mighty warrior in God's army!
Reflect on This
How can you actively "put on Christ" in your daily life?
What area of your life needs the breath of God's Spirit to bring life and restoration?
Prayer
Father, I thank you that I am your child, a son/daughter of the Most High God. I receive your Spirit and declare that I am no longer a slave but an heir to your promises. I walk in the fullness of my identity in Christ, filled with your life and power. Amen.
