Today, let's explore a powerful truth that can transform how we face seemingly impossible situations. When circumstances appear dead and hopeless, there's a perspective that changes everything. It's not about denying reality but seeing beyond it with eyes of faith.
Refusing the Report of Death
In Mark 5, we find Jesus heading to Jairus's house to heal his daughter when messengers arrive with devastating news: "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?" This was the factual report, the girl had died. But notice Jesus' remarkable response:
"Jesus refused to listen to what they were told.'" - Mark 5:36 (Passion Translation)
Jesus immediately countered the report of death with an instruction to believe. This wasn't denial, it was divine perspective. Jesus knew a truth beyond the facts.
When negative reports come your way, whether about your health, finances, relationships, or dreams, you have a choice in how you respond. You can accept the report as final, or you can refuse to listen to anything that contradicts God's promises.
Choosing Your Company Carefully
After this exchange, Jesus did something significant:
"He allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James." - Mark 5:37
Jesus was selective about who accompanied Him into this situation. He chose only those who could believe with Him. This teaches us a crucial lesson: when facing seemingly dead circumstances, be intentional about who you allow to speak into your situation.
Not everyone has the faith to see resurrection. Some will only reinforce what appears dead. Instead, surround yourself with those who can believe with you, who speak life rather than confirm death. Their faith will strengthen yours when your own begins to waver.
Seeing Through Jesus' Eyes
When Jesus arrived at Jairus's house, He encountered a scene of grief and mourning:
"And when he had entered, he said to them, 'Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.'" - Mark 5:39
To everyone present, the girl was undeniably dead. But Jesus saw differently. He didn't deny the physical reality but perceived a deeper truth—what appeared as death was merely temporary, like sleep from which she would awaken.
This perspective is available to us today. When your dreams seem dead, your relationships broken beyond repair, or your health deteriorating, Jesus asks, "Why all this grief and weeping?" He invites you to see through His eyes, where nothing is beyond resurrection.
Your Redeemer Lives
Job, having lost everything—his wealth, his children, his health, made this powerful declaration:
"I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth." - Job 19:25
This is the foundation of our hope. No matter what has been taken from you, no matter how dead your situation appears, your Redeemer lives! And because He lives, nothing in your life is beyond redemption.
Remember Jacob, who grieved for Joseph for years, believing him dead. Yet all along, Joseph was alive and being positioned for greatness. Your dreams, hopes, and promises may appear dead, but in reality, they are being positioned for resurrection.
Conclusion
What appears dead in your life today? Is it a relationship, a dream, your health, or your finances? Whatever it is, hear Jesus asking, "Why all this grief and weeping?" He sees beyond the apparent death to the resurrection that awaits.
Stop listening to the reports of death. Choose carefully who speaks into your situation. See through Jesus' eyes. And remember always: your Redeemer lives, and because He lives, nothing in your life is truly dead, it's only sleeping, awaiting His touch to awaken.
Reflect on This
What situation in your life have you accepted as "dead" that Jesus might be viewing as merely "sleeping"?
How might your perspective and actions change if you truly believed that nothing in your life is beyond resurrection?
Prayer
Father, I declare that my Redeemer lives! Because You live, my dreams live, my hope lives, and nothing in my life is beyond resurrection. I refuse to listen to reports of death. I choose to see through Your eyes, where nothing is impossible. I stand on Your promises, knowing that what appears dead is merely sleeping, awaiting Your touch. Thank You that You've already won every battle I face. In Jesus' name, I am more than a conqueror! In Jesus' Amen.
