Why Pleasing God Is Easier Than You Think

September 19, 2026

Have you ever felt like pleasing God was this impossible, complicated task? Like no matter what you did, it was never quite enough? Today's reflection is going to set you free from that lie. The truth is, pleasing God is not only possible, it is the most natural thing a believer can do. And when you understand how it works, everything changes.
When the Spirit Rushes In, the Impossible Becomes Possible
Let's start with a powerful moment from the life of Samson. In Judges chapter 14, a young lion came roaring at him with deadly intent. But something remarkable happened.
"The Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily, and he tore the lion apart as one tears apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand." Judges 14:6
Samson had nothing in his hand. No weapon. No preparation. Yet when the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, the impossible became effortless. This is the same Spirit that lives inside you. The same resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead surrounds you right now. It never leaves. It never forsakes you. When the Holy Spirit moves in your life, you will enter a season of doing things that your natural ability could never accomplish.
You are called for greater things. You are called for a great purpose. And the God who chose you, anointed you, and called you will bring every promise to pass.
The Real Secret to Pleasing God
Now here is something that might surprise you. Many believers carry this unnecessary guilt, wondering, "What else do I need to do to please God?" That guilty feeling is one of the enemy's oldest and most limited tricks. The good news is that Jesus crushed the enemy's head at the cross. His arsenal is small, and it has already been defeated.
So how do you please God? The answer is found in a verse that is often quoted halfway but rarely taken to its full depth.
"But without faith it is impossible to walk with God and please Him, for whoever comes near to God must necessarily believe that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly and diligently seek Him." Hebrews 11:6 (AMP)
Did you catch that? Pleasing God has two parts. First, you believe He exists. Most of us do that already, and even that is a start. But the second part is where most teaching stops short. You must also believe and earnestly expect that He rewards those who seek Him. It is not just about believing God is real. It is about trusting that when you come to Him with a seeking heart, He responds. He rewards. He delivers.
Faith without expectation is incomplete. Believe He exists, and believe He rewards.
So if you are believing God for healing, you need to not only pray for healing, you need to see yourself healed. You need to speak over your situation, not from your situation. You do not speak the challenge. You speak over the challenge. That is how faith works in its fullness.
Honey from the Lion's Carcass
Now here is where the story of Samson takes a beautiful and unexpected turn. After killing the lion, Samson walked away. But when he returned some days later, something had changed.
"After some days he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. He scraped it out into his hands and went on eating as he went. And he came to his father and mother and gave some to them, and they ate. But he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey from the carcass of the lion." Judges 14:8,9
This is breathtaking. The very lion that came to devour Samson became the source of his sweetness. Samson was supposed to be the lion's meal. Instead, through the power of the Spirit, the lion became a vessel of honey. What was meant to kill him became his provision.
This is exactly what God is saying over your life. You are entering a season of honey. The bitterness is leaving. The season of Mara is over.
When the Water Tastes Bitter
This word "Mara" takes us to another powerful moment in Scripture. After the miracle of the Red Sea, the Israelites walked three days into the wilderness and found no water. Then finally, they spotted a source. Hope rose in their hearts. But when they tasted it, they were devastated.
"When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah." Exodus 15:23
There was water, but they could not drink it. Sometimes life looks like that. Something appears promising. A door seems to open. A situation looks like it is turning around. But then the water turns bitter. A promise from people falls through. A breakthrough you expected gets delayed. And in that moment, the temptation is to grumble.
But your season does not have to end at Mara. The bitterness does not get to write the final chapter of your story.
Conclusion
Today's reflection carries a powerful truth: pleasing God is not a performance. It is a posture of faith that believes He is real and confidently expects that He rewards those who seek Him. You do not have to earn your way into His blessings. You simply have to trust Him fully and speak His word over your life, not your circumstances. The Spirit that empowered Samson to tear apart a lion with his bare hands is the same Spirit dwelling inside you. And just as sweetness came out of what tried to destroy Samson, God is turning your bitterest seasons into overflowing honey. Your Mara is not your final destination. A sweeter season is already unfolding.
Reflect on This
In what area of your life have you been believing in God but not fully expecting His reward? How can you shift your posture to active, expectant faith today?
Is there a situation that has tasted bitter lately, and how can you begin to speak over it rather than from it?
Prayer
Father, I thank You that pleasing You is not complicated. I believe You exist, and I believe You reward those who earnestly seek You. I declare that Your Spirit, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, is alive and active in my life right now. Every bitter season is turning sweet. Every situation that was meant to destroy me is becoming a source of honey and abundance. I do not speak my circumstances. I speak Your Word over every area of my life. I receive Your reward by faith today. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Key Takeaways
Pleasing God is not complicated; it flows from genuine faith combined with the confident expectation that He rewards those who seek Him.
The same Holy Spirit who empowered Samson to do the impossible is the very Spirit living inside you right now.
What the enemy intended to destroy you with can become the very source of your sweetness and provision.
You are called to speak over your situation with the Word of God, not from within the pain of your situation.
