Valued by God: Embracing His Provision

If God cares for the birds, how much more does He care for us, who are made in His image?

In our fast-paced world, anxieties and the pursuit of material possessions can easily overshadow our spiritual growth. Let us delve into the scriptures and discover how to cultivate a heart fertile for God's word, allowing it to flourish and bear fruit.

The Choking Thorns of Worldly Cares:

The parable of the sower in Luke 8:14 describes seeds falling among thorns, representing those who hear the message but are choked by the cares, riches, and pleasures of this life.

"The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and so they never grow into maturity." - Luke 8:14

These "thorns" aren't exclusive to the wealthy. They represent anything that distracts us from God, whether it's the anxieties of poverty or the burden of wealth. Whether struggling in poverty or enjoying abundance, the temptation exists to place our trust in money rather than in God. The poor may long for it as a solution to their problems, while the rich may rely on it for their security. Both miss the point that true security and provision come from God alone.

Seeking First the Kingdom:

The solution to the problem of worldly cares choking our spiritual growth is found in Matthew 6:33. This verse provides a clear directive from Jesus on how to prioritize our lives:

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." - Matthew 6:33

Jesus doesn't say to seek the kingdom of God if we have time or if it's convenient. He commands us to seek it first. This means making God and His will the top priority in our lives. It means aligning our thoughts, actions, and desires with His word. This involves actively pursuing a deeper understanding of God through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers. It also means trusting in God's promises, even when our circumstances seem to contradict them.

Seeking God's kingdom isn't passive; it's an active pursuit of His will. It means immersing ourselves in His word, believing its truths, and trusting in its power. It means choosing faith over fear, God's promises over human reports and shifting our focus from the visible, temporary circumstances to the invisible, eternal realities of God's kingdom. This means not relying on worldly reports or allowing our current situation to dictate our faith.

Our Inestimable Value:

Jesus further emphasizes our inherent value in Matthew 6:25-26. He uses the example of birds to illustrate God's care for His creation:

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" - Matthew 6:25-26

If God cares for the birds, how much more does He care for us, who are made in His image? This passage reminds us that our worth is not determined by our possessions, our accomplishments, or the opinions of others. Our value comes from being children of God, created and loved by Him.

"You are more valued than all the creations that he created.."  

He reminds us that even when we feel worthless or inadequate, God sees us as precious and irreplaceable. This knowledge should empower us to live with confidence and purpose, knowing that we are deeply loved and cherished by our Creator.

Let us cast aside the anxieties and distractions that hinder our spiritual growth. Embrace the truth of God's word, trust in His unwavering provision, and walk confidently in the knowledge of your immeasurable worth in His kingdom.
