Snake
The venom has no power over a life covered by His blood.

Have you ever felt like something is missing in your life, like God is somehow holding back His best from you? Or maybe you have found yourself drowning in shame over past mistakes, convinced that your failures have disqualified you from God's blessing? Today, we are going to look at a pattern so ancient and so consistent that once you see it, you will never be deceived by it the same way again. This is a message about the enemy's oldest trick, and more importantly, about why Jesus dealt with it once and for all.

The Young Lion That Came Roaring

In the book of Judges, there is a moment where Samson is walking toward Timnah and suddenly a lion comes roaring toward him. That image is powerful, and it is not accidental. Scripture tells us that the enemy moves just like that roaring lion, loud, intimidating, and aggressive.

"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8

But here is what is important to understand. The enemy comes roaring like a lion but he also strikes like a serpent. And the poison is not in the tail. It is in the head. Specifically, from the salivary glands located on each side of the snake's head, behind the eyes, in the mouth. That is where the venom is produced. That is where the poison is stored. And that is why the Bible declares that the head must be crushed.

"I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." Genesis 3:15

This is a prophecy pointing directly to Jesus. And we know that at Calvary, Jesus fulfilled it. He crushed the head of the serpent. Why the head? Because that is where the venom is. That is where the lies are manufactured. That is the source of every deception the enemy has ever used against you.

Two Poisons, One Ancient Strategy

So what exactly is in that venom? What are the two poisons the enemy has been spitting since the very beginning?

Go back to the Garden of Eden. When the serpent approached Eve, it did not attack her physically. It spoke. It used its tongue, its mouth, to release poison.

"He said to the woman, 'Did God actually say, You shall not eat of any tree in the garden?'" Genesis 3:1

The first poison is this: a question about the character of God. The serpent essentially said, "God is hiding something from you. God knows that if you eat this fruit, you will become like Him. That is why He told you not to eat it." In other words, God cannot be fully trusted. God's goodness has a hidden limit. There is something He is keeping just out of your reach.

The enemy's first move is never a punch. It is always a question about God's goodness.

And sadly, this same venom is being administered to believers today. When someone gets sick, they say, "Maybe God is teaching me a lesson." When finances fall apart, they wonder, "Maybe this is God's will." When prayers seem unanswered, they conclude, "Maybe healing or breakthrough is not for me."

But listen carefully. You do not need to eat anything or do anything to access God's goodness. When you were born again, you received everything. You received His blessing, His inheritance, His healing, and access to His kingdom. You were already made in His image and likeness, just as Adam and Eve were. They did not need to eat the fruit to become like God because they already were like God.

"Whoever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world, our faith." 1 John 5:4

The Tongue That Carries the Venom

These days, the enemy rarely speaks to us directly. He uses people. He uses voices. He uses words spoken over your life to deliver his poison.

"But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison." James 3:8
"Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips." Romans 3:13

This is why what you listen to matters so deeply. The sermons you receive, the conversations you have, the voices you allow to speak into your life, all of it is either delivering life or releasing venom. The venom of asps is under the lips. So guard what enters through your ears, because it will shape what you believe about God and about yourself.

What you consistently listen to will either build your faith or poison it.

The Second Poison: Accusation

Now, here is where it gets deeply personal. Once the enemy has convinced you that God is not fully good, that something is lacking, that God is hiding His blessing from you, he moves to the second poison. He accuses you.

Look at what happened in the Garden after Adam and Eve ate the fruit. God came and asked a revealing question.

"But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, 'Where are you?' He said, 'I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.'" Genesis 3:9-10

And then God asked something extraordinary.

"He said, 'Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?'" Genesis 3:11

Who told you that you were naked? God did not tell Adam he was naked. Adam had no awareness of it on his own. Someone else whispered that shame into his ear. And that someone was the same serpent who had just tempted them.

Do you see the pattern? The enemy tempts you first, and then accuses you for what you did. He lures you into the fruit and then points at you and says, "Look what you have done. That is why everything is broken in your life. That is why you are sick. That is why you are struggling. That is why God is not answering your prayers." He is the tempter and the accuser rolled into one.

The Accuser Has Been Thrown Down

But here is the glorious news that changes everything.

"And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, 'Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.'" Revelation 12:10

The accuser has been thrown down. Thrown down. The one who was accusing your family, your children, your health, your future, has been thrown down. And how do we walk in that victory?

"And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death." Revelation 12:11

The blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony. That is your weapon. That is how you crush the venom under your feet. When the enemy comes and says God is withholding from you, you declare, "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall lack nothing." When he whispers that your past disqualifies you, you say, "I am covered by the blood of Jesus. The accuser has been thrown down."

The enemy crushed by Jesus cannot poison a life that is covered by the blood of the Lamb.

Today is a new season. The days of living under deception are over. The days of shame and accusation are finished. Jesus crushed the head of the serpent at Calvary, and that means the venom has no power over you. Surely goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life. Not because of what you have done, but because of what Jesus has already done. You are born of God, and whoever is born of God is victorious. Stand on that truth today.

Conclusion

The enemy has been running the same playbook since the Garden, and now you can see it clearly. First, he whispers that God is holding something back from you, that His goodness has a hidden limit, that you are somehow lacking what you need. And the moment you reach for that lie, he pivots and uses your own stumble to condemn you. Tempter first, accuser second. That has always been his strategy.

But here is what changes everything. Jesus did not come simply to give you better advice or a stronger willpower. He came to crush the head of the serpent at Calvary, right at the source of the venom. The lies, the shame, the accusations, all of it flows from that head, and that head has been dealt with. The accuser has been thrown down.

You do not need to earn what God has already given you. You were born again into a complete inheritance, blessed, healed, and covered. And when the enemy comes whispering that your past disqualifies you or that God is withholding His best, you have a weapon that silences him every time: the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony. Declare what Jesus has done. Stand on what He has already finished. The venom has no power over a life covered by His blood.

Reflect on This

  1. Have you been believing a lie about God's character, thinking He is withholding something good from you, and how does knowing His goodness is your inheritance change that perspective?

  2. Is there an area in your life where the enemy has tempted you and then turned around to accuse you for it, and how can the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony bring you freedom in that area?

Prayer

Father, I thank You that Jesus crushed the head of the enemy at Calvary and that the venom of deception and accusation has no power over my life. I declare that You are a good God and that You are not hiding anything from me. I am born of You, and I walk in the fullness of Your blessing, Your healing, and Your grace. The accuser has been thrown down, and I am covered by the blood of the Lamb. I walk in victory today, not by my strength, but by the finished work of Jesus Christ. In Jesus Name, Amen.
