Person with a backpack and camera tripod stands on rocks facing crashing ocean waves. The sky is dark and stormy, creating a dramatic scene.
The same storm that tried to sink you is the surface on which God is calling you to walk, as long as your focus remains on Jesus.

You have probably looked at a storm in your life and seen only one thing: a threat. Something to survive. Something to endure. Something to wait out until it passes. And that is a very human response. But what if the storm you are staring at is not just something to survive? What if, in the presence of God, that same storm becomes the very surface on which you walk?

That is not poetic exaggeration. That is exactly what the word of God says is possible for you.

Walking on the Problem, Not Sinking Under It

There is a scene in the Gospels that carries enormous weight for anyone facing an impossible situation. Peter stepped out of a boat onto a raging sea and walked on the water toward Jesus. The same water that should have swallowed him held him up, as long as his eyes were fixed on Jesus.

You may be going through a situation right now that feels like water pulling you under. But here is what the word of God declares over you: you are not going to sink. You are going to walk. The same problem that tried to drag you down is the very surface on which God is calling you to stand. All you need to do is look at Jesus.

You can walk on the water in Jesus' name. Nothing can drown you. Nothing can sink you because your focus is upon Jesus.

When your eyes are on Jesus, the storm does not disappear but it loses its power over you. You can look at that situation and say: be still. The same storm that came to sink you now becomes the platform for one of the greatest demonstrations of God's power in your life.

When Fire Surrounds You, Look for the Fourth Man

And what about the fire? There are seasons of life that do not feel like water they feel like flames. Like you are completely surrounded by something consuming, and there is no way out. In those moments, remember three men named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

They were thrown into a furnace so hot it killed the men who threw them in. And when the king looked into the fire, he did not see three men burning. He saw four men walking, unhurt, and the fourth looked like the Son of God.

Maybe the situation you are in right now feels like that furnace. Completely surrounded. No escape. But I want to tell you: there is a fourth man walking in the midst of your fire. You are not alone in it. And here is what happens when the presence of God enters a fire:

The same fire that came to kill will be used for your benefit. It will break your bondage. It will break your chains. It will break the ropes that have been tying your family.

The fire did not hurt those three men. It burned the very ropes that had been used to bind them. When you are in the presence of God, the thing that was meant to destroy you becomes the instrument of your deliverance.

All You Need Is the Voice of God

At this point, it is tempting to start looking for what else you might need to get through the situation you are in. More resources. More support. More time. And all of those things may play a role in your life. But there is something that matters more than any of them.

All you need is not medicine alone. All you need is not money alone. All you need is not some human document or effort. All you need is the voice of God. All you need is the promise of God. All you need is the presence of God.

That is not a denial of practical reality. It is an anchoring of your trust in the right place. When you have the voice of God, you have something that no circumstance, no opposition, and no darkness can override. The presence of God breaks the yoke. It breaks sickness. It breaks every bondage. The word of God is a double-edged sword, and when it enters your situation, it has to break something.

Consider this from Psalm 29:3 again:

"The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters." Psalm 29:3

And tie that to the promise of Isaiah 43:2:

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you." Isaiah 43:2

We are trusting in a God who walked on water. He did not fear it. He did not go around it. He walked on it. And He is the same God who stands with you in your fire today.

His Word Will Not Go Void

This is the anchor that holds everything together. Whatever the enemy has said over your life, whatever the situation looks like, whatever the report says the word of God will not return void. It will accomplish what it was sent to accomplish. It cannot fail. It will not fail.

Tell the enemy this morning: the voice of the Lord is with me. The presence of the Lord is with me. The glory of God is with me. And that glory, that goodness, that presence will produce a glorious thunder in my life that will set every bondage away.

I will pass through the waters, and I will not be overwhelmed. The flames will not set me ablaze. Because I am in the presence of God. Because I believe in the word of God.

When the thunder of God's promises comes, it will bring life to what was dead, healing to what was broken, and freedom to what was bound.

Conclusion

Whatever situation you are walking through today, you are not walking through it alone. There is a God who walks on water. There is a fourth man in the fire. There is a voice that thunders over every problem you carry. You were never meant to sink beneath your circumstances. You were meant to walk on them. Fix your eyes on Jesus, receive His promise, and stand on the word that cannot go void. The same storm that tried to take you down is about to become your greatest testimony.

Reflect on This

  1. When you picture Peter walking on the water, what does "keeping your focus on Jesus" look like practically in the specific storm you are facing right now?

  2. Have you ever experienced a season where something that was meant to harm you ended up breaking a bondage in your life? How does the story of the fourth man in the fire speak to what you are facing today?

Prayer

Father, I thank You that I am not walking through my storms alone. I declare that the same problems that tried to sink me are now beneath my feet in Jesus' name. I declare that there is a fourth man walking with me in every fire I face, and the flames will not consume me. I receive Your voice over every water in my life. Your word will not go void. Your presence breaks every yoke and every chain. I will pass through and I will not be overwhelmed. In Jesus' name, Amen.
