Two hands reaching towards each other, fingers nearly touching against a warm sunset background, creating a romantic and serene mood.
God reconciled the world to Himself through Christ, not counting our sins against us this is the heart of the Gospel.

There is a message so profound, so life-altering, that traditions and religious habits can often stand in the way of receiving it. Today, you are invited to set aside everything you think you know, every assumption, every inherited rule, and approach this truth with fresh eyes and an open heart. Because what God has done for you through Jesus Christ is not a small thing. It is the greatest act of love the universe has ever witnessed, and it is for you.

When Tradition Gets in the Way

Before we can receive the fullness of what God has done, Jesus himself warned us in Mark that our traditions and teachings can actually work against the Word of God:

"Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye."  Mark 7:13

Every church, every denomination carries its own traditions. But when those traditions replace the Word, they empty it of power. True humility is not about following rules about what to wear or where to sit. Real humility is believing God's Word exactly as it is written and trusting that what He says is true, no matter what anyone else says.

"The reward of humility and the fear of the LORD is riches, and honor, and life."  Proverbs 22:4

When you simply trust God at His word, placing your confidence in His care rather than in your own reasoning, that is the posture from which true transformation comes.

A Brief History of How We Got Here

To understand what God has done, we need a flashback. Before Jesus came, God chose one nation, Israel to be set apart. Within that nation, one city was holy: Jerusalem. Within that city, one location was sacred: Mount Zion. On that mount stood the Temple. Within the Temple was the Most Holy Place. And at the center of the Most Holy Place sat the Mercy Seat, the very throne of God's grace.

All of this layering existed for one reason: to show how far humanity was from God. Access to that innermost place was not for everyone. It was tightly guarded, carefully restricted. Yet right there, at the core of all that holiness, was not a throne of judgment but a throne of mercy.

That is who God has always been. And it was into that place that He desired to bring you.

The Ministry of Reconciliation

This is the heart of the Gospel. Paul explains it clearly in 2 Corinthians:

"God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation."  2 Corinthians 5:19

The word reconciliation comes from the world of accounting. When two accounts do not match, a reconciler brings them into alignment. That is precisely what God did. There was a gap between God and humanity not because God had moved away from us, but because our sin had created a wall between us and Him. God sent His own Son to close that gap, to reconcile the accounts.

Notice the breathtaking statement: He is "not imputing their trespasses." He is not counting your sins against you. Why? Because the payment has already been made. Jesus Christ stepped into that gap and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice once for all time.

"How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?"  Hebrews 9:14

Once and For All

This is something that demands to be understood clearly. The sacrifice of Jesus was not temporary. It was not a seasonal covering that expires. It was eternal:

"By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."  Hebrews 10:10

The phrase "once for all" means for every era, every generation, every person. His sacrifice covered your past sins, your present struggles, and yes your future failures. He died two thousand years before you were born, knowing every moment of your life. He is not coming back to the cross again.

"For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified." Hebrews 10:14

He perfected you for ever. That word "for ever" is not a poetic flourish, it is a legal declaration. And as Hebrews 10:17 confirms, God says:

"Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more." Hebrews 10:17

You Are an Ambassador

This is not just good news to receive, it is good news to carry. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:20:

"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God."  2 Corinthians 5:20

Think about what an ambassador does. He represents his home country in a foreign land. He does not make up the message he carries the message. You are not just a recipient of reconciliation; you are an ambassador of it. Your life, your words, your testimony carry the same message that set you free and it can set others free too.

The Good News is simple: there is someone who died for your sins, and if you receive Him, everything changes.

The blood of Jesus was not just shed for Christians. It was shed for the sins of the whole world, for everyone who will receive it.

Conclusion

God did not count your sins against you. He sent His Son to stand in your place, to absorb what you deserved, so that you could walk in the freedom you never earned. That is reconciliation. The wall is down. The gap is closed. The Mercy Seat is accessible. The invitation stands open for you today.

Reflect on This

  1. Are there traditions or inherited religious habits in your life that may be preventing you from receiving the full truth of what God has already done for you through Jesus?

  2. In what practical way can you begin to see yourself as an ambassador of reconciliation this week, someone who carries the good news to others around you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You that You are not counting my sins against me. I receive the finished work of Jesus Christ as my complete and eternal reconciliation. I believe that His blood has covered every sin, past, present, and future. I stand in the freedom He purchased for me, and I commit to carrying this good news to others as Your ambassador. I am reconciled to You, and nothing can separate me from Your love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
