Today we explore a powerful spiritual principle that can transform how we face life's challenges. When confronted with overwhelming circumstances, God provides not just comfort, but a strategic approach to victory.
The Battle Belongs to God
In 2 Chronicles 20, we find a remarkable promise that speaks directly to our struggles:
"Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God's." - 2 Chronicles 20:15
This verse reminds us that in our most challenging moments, we don't face our battles alone. God declares ownership over our struggles, shifting the burden from our shoulders to His capable hands.
The passage continues with specific instructions:
"Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they will come up by the ascent of Ziz. You will find them at the end of the valley, east of the wilderness of Jeruel." - 2 Chronicles 20:16
Notice the paradox here: though God claims the battle as His own, He still instructs His people to "go down against them." This teaches us an important truth: God's ownership of our battles doesn't mean inaction on our part. We must still show up, follow His guidance, and position ourselves according to His strategy.
Standing Firm in Your Position
The heart of this meditation centers on verse 17:
"You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you." - 2 Chronicles 20:17
This verse contains three key instructions: stand firm, hold your position, and see God's salvation. But what exactly is our "position" that we must hold?
Our position isn't connected to our problems but to our spiritual reality in Christ:
"You are co-seated with Jesus in the heavenly realms."
This references Ephesians 2, which tells us that God has
"Raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus." - Ephesians 2:6
From this elevated position, we view our challenges differently, seeing them from above rather than being overwhelmed by them.
Your True Identity in Christ
Our position encompasses our complete identity in Christ.
"Your position is not linked with your problem but your position is you are seated along with Jesus."
This heavenly position includes several aspects:
You are already healed by Christ's sacrifice
You have been made rich through His poverty
You possess the righteousness of God
You have been given the spirit of God
When you were born again, you received everything you need. Healing, prosperity, righteousness, peace, wisdom, and knowledge are all within you. God has placed all these qualities inside you as part of your new identity in Christ.
Standing Against False Perceptions
There is a common misconception: "Don't act too holy." But this contradicts our true nature as believers:
"When you are born again, you become holy. Your spirit is righteous."
Don’t live or act contrary to your true nature. Don’t behave like a sinner when your true nature is holy
"He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do" - 1 Peter 1:15
Don’t suffer in sickness when you have been healed by His stripes
“By His wounds you have been healed.” -1 Peter 2:25.
Don’t live in poverty when you are rich in Christ Jesus
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. - 2 Corinthians 8:9
Stop acting from your old identity as if you are sick, poor, or broken, when in truth you are whole and complete in Christ according to your new identity
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! - 2 Corinthians 5:17
Standing Firm in Every Aspect of Life
God isn't limited to spiritual matters. He wants to be involved in every area of your life:
"God wants to be your coworker in every single aspect of your life, not just for your spirituality."
He provides strategies for your:
Work environment
Family relationships
Business decisions
Investment choices
Timing of important decisions
Don't limit God to Sundays or religious activities. He is the God of strategies who wants to guide every aspect of your existence.
Responding to Challenges
When facing difficulties, whether a negative medical report, financial struggle, or relationship problem, we can respond from our position of authority:
"I reject that because that's not my position. I'm standing on my position."
Our position is:
Victory, not defeat
Success, not failure
Righteousness, not guilt
Holiness, not sin
Wisdom, not confusion
By standing firm in this position, we can watch God's salvation unfold on our behalf.
Conclusion
Today, embrace your true identity in Christ. Stand firm in who God says you are, not what circumstances suggest. Hold your position of victory, and see the salvation of the Lord working on your behalf.
Remember, you don't need to fight every battle that comes your way. Some battles belong to God. Your responsibility is to stand firm, hold your position, and witness His salvation working for you.
Reflect on This
In what areas of your life do you need to stop fighting and start standing firm in your position in Christ?
How might your approach to challenges change if you viewed them from your seated position with Christ in heavenly places?
Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your word today. I understand that You are the God who helps me in all aspects of my life, in my work, in my family, and in every decision I face. Thank You for showing me that I have a position to stand firm in. My position is not of this world but comes from Your word. I am in Christ, and in Him I have healing, prosperity, righteousness, holiness, and wisdom. Help me to understand who I truly am in Christ, for that is my true identity. Whatever identity the world tries to give me is not who I am. I am in Christ, and I stand firm in that position today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
