Today, let's explore how God empowers us to overcome seemingly impossible situations. When we focus on Jesus rather than our circumstances, we can walk on water, survive the fire, and triumph over any challenge. This meditation invites you to experience the supernatural possibilities that await when you place your complete trust in God.
Don't Be Afraid
In Matthew 14, we find Jesus approaching His disciples by walking on water during a storm. Initially, they were terrified, thinking He was a ghost because fear clouded their perception. But Jesus immediately reassured them with these powerful words:
"But Jesus spoke to them at once. 'Don't be afraid,' he said. 'Take courage. I am here.'" - Matthew 14:27
These three simple phrases contain everything we need when facing life's challenges. God is not distant during your trials. He is present, offering courage and companionship. When fear grips your heart, remember: don't be afraid, take courage, and know that God is with you.
God is in the midst of your problem and your situation. He is with you and never leaves you. As Scripture promises,
"I will never leave you nor forsake you." - Joshua 1:5
Be encouraged, for He is with you, for you, and in you.
Peter's Bold Request
What happened next reveals an extraordinary truth about faith. Peter made a remarkable request:
"Then Peter called to him, 'Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.'" - Matthew 14:28
Peter didn't ask Jesus to calm the storm first. He didn't request a bridge or a boat. Instead, he asked to do the impossible, to walk on water just like Jesus. This prayer demonstrates Peter's faith and desire to experience the supernatural.
Jesus didn't respond by saying, "You're just a disciple; you can't do what I'm doing. Only I have mastered walking on water. Only I have the special anointing." No, Jesus has a Father's heart. A good leader, a godly leader, always wants their children to go further than themselves. Jesus said those who believe in Him will do even greater things than He did.
Unlike worldly leaders who climb upon others' shoulders to reach the top, Jesus carries us on His shoulders. He always wants us to succeed and go one step beyond where we are now. That's the Father's heart.
Walking on Water
Jesus' response to Peter was simple: "Come." And Peter's reaction was remarkable:
"So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus." - Matthew 14:29
Peter actually walked on water! The background of this story reveals that the boat was "a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them." When you're having a hard time, it's better to get out of the boat and come near to Jesus rather than focusing on your difficult circumstances.
Usually, walking on water is impossible. But Peter did it. Similarly, when you're struggling with financial problems, facing a serious health diagnosis, or finding it hard to get that promotion, remember that you can "walk on water." You can do the impossible because our God makes everything possible.
The world says it's not possible, but God says it is possible. You can walk on the waters, walk above the waves, walk over your problems. You can walk in healing, victory, and peace. You can walk in the goodness of God. You can come out of the fire and walk out of your problems as a victorious person.
Walking Through Fire
In Daniel 3, where three men - Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego - refused to worship King Nebuchadnezzar's golden statue. The king, in his anger, ordered them thrown into a blazing furnace so hot that it killed the soldiers who carried out the sentence:
"And because the king, in his anger, had demanded such a hot fire in the furnace, the flames killed the soldiers as they threw the three men in." - Daniel 3:22
Yet something extraordinary happened. King Nebuchadnezzar looked into the furnace and was astonished:
"Look!" Nebuchadnezzar shouted. "I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a son of the gods." - Daniel 3:25
Not only did these faithful men survive the fire, but they walked freely within it, accompanied by a divine presence. We've just seen walking on water, and now we see walking in fire. The impossible is happening. The supernatural is taking place.
There's a clear difference between believers and nonbelievers illustrated here. The people who carried Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to the furnace were burned, but those in the furnace remained alive, walking in the midst of the fire. God has made you fireproof and waterproof. No matter what season or situation you're in, you will overcome. You and your family will come out of darkness.
When you're in the fire, you are not alone. God is with you even in the fire. When you're going through pain, God is going through it with you, wanting to help you at every moment of your life.
Emerging Unharmed
When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire, the officials were amazed:
"Then the high officers, officials, governors, and advisers crowded around them and saw that the fire had not touched them. Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched. They didn't even smell of smoke." - Daniel 3:27
When you're in the kitchen cooking all day, you smell like what you've been cooking. But these men didn't even smell of smoke! The fire had no power over their bodies. Similarly, your problems will have no power over you, your children, your family, or your work. What you see cannot harm you or touch you. You will walk out with no harm, not even the smell of fire on you.
God's Promise of Protection
Isaiah beautifully captures God's promise of protection during life's most challenging moments:
"When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you." - Isaiah 43:2
The problem cannot consume you. Sickness cannot consume you. Whatever situation you're facing cannot consume you because God is with you and for you. You are special, anointed, a son or daughter of the living God. You have a Savior who will take you out of your problem. He has made you waterproof, fireproof, and problem-proof.
When these challenges come, do not be discouraged or dismayed. God is with you and will bring you out. Remember that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were promoted to top positions after their fiery trial, and Peter became a leader in the early church after his water-walking experience. Satan may bring problems and challenges, but nothing can overtake or overcome you because God is with you. He will lift you up and your family in Jesus' name.
Conclusion
You are a water-walker. You can survive the fire, the water, and any problem, emerging victorious because God is with you. The world may say it's impossible, but with God, all things are possible.
Today, choose to focus on Jesus rather than your circumstances. Step out of your comfort zone and face your challenges with confidence. God is with you in the water and in the fire, ensuring that nothing can overcome or consume you.
You are more than a survivor. You are called to walk in supernatural victory, healing, and peace. The God of the impossible is with you, making the impossible possible in your life.
Reflect on This
In what areas of your life do you need to step out of the boat and trust God for the impossible?
How might your perspective change if you focused on God's presence in your trials rather than the trials themselves?
Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your promise to be with me in every trial. Today I declare that I am waterproof against the floods of adversity and fireproof against the flames of affliction. I fix my eyes on Jesus, not on my circumstances. I step out in faith, knowing that with You, I can do what seems impossible. Thank You for making me supernatural in a natural world. I walk in victory, healing, and peace not by my strength but by Your power within me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Key Takeaways
When fear grips your heart, remember Jesus' words: "Don't be afraid. Take courage. I am here."
Like Peter, you can walk on water when your focus remains on Jesus rather than your circumstances.
God doesn't always remove the fire from your life, but He joins you in it and protects you through it.
You are waterproof, fireproof, and problem-proof because the Creator of the universe walks with you.
Your current trial is not your final destination; it's preparation for your promotion.
