God's plan A is always better than our plan B or C; trust His methods and timing.

Today, let's explore the beautiful truth about resting in God's promises rather than striving to make them happen through our own efforts. This isn't about being passive; it's about trusting in God's faithfulness and allowing His perfect timing to unfold in our lives. Prepare your heart to receive encouragement as we discover how God works even when we struggle with doubt.

Abraham's Human Struggle

Abraham's story reveals something profoundly comforting about our faith journey. While the New Testament celebrates him as the father of faith, the Old Testament shows us his very human struggles. He made mistakes, told lies about his wife, and operated from fear rather than faith at times. Yet God remained faithful to His promises.

When God called Abraham, the promise was clear and magnificent:

"Now the Lord said to Abram, 'Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.'" - Genesis 12:1-3

Despite this incredible promise, Abraham found himself questioning and even suggesting alternatives to God's plan.

When We Try to Help God

In Genesis 15, we witness a tender moment of human weakness meeting divine patience. Abraham, despite receiving multiple confirmations of God's promise, began to wonder if his servant Eliezer might be the answer to God's promise of an heir.

"After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: 'Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.' But Abram said, 'O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?'" - Genesis 15:1-2

How often do we do the same? God gives us a promise, but when it doesn't unfold according to our timeline, we start looking for Plan B or Plan C. We try to force fulfillment through our own understanding and efforts.

God's Gentle Correction

God's response to Abraham's doubt wasn't harsh judgment but gentle correction and renewed assurance:

"And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: 'This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.'" - Genesis 15:4
Don't work for your promise; work for the manifestation of your promise by resting in the word.

God doesn't need our help to fulfill His promises. He needs our trust, our rest, and our faith in His perfect timing and methods.

The Power of Divine Encouragement

Throughout Abraham's journey, God consistently encouraged and uplifted him. Even when Abraham's faith wavered, God remained steadfast. He expanded the promise, showing Abraham the vastness of the land and the countless nature of his future descendants:

"The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, 'Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted.'" - Genesis 13:14-16

Resting in His Faithfulness

The beautiful truth is that God works to convince us of His promises. He doesn't give up on us when we struggle with doubt or try to help Him along. Instead, He patiently works in our hearts, building our faith and trust in His word.

If you're believing for healing, rest in His promise of restoration. If you're waiting for promotion or breakthrough, remember that advancement comes from the Lord, not from human effort alone. God's plans are higher than our plans, and His ways are perfect.

Conclusion

Just as God encouraged Abraham with the words "Fear not, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great," He speaks the same encouragement over your life today. You don't need to strive or force the fulfillment of His promises. Rest in His faithfulness, trust in His timing, and watch as He brings about the manifestation of every word He has spoken over your life.

Reflect on This

  1. In what areas of your life are you trying to help God fulfill His promises instead of resting in His faithfulness?

  2. How can you shift from working for your promise to working for the manifestation by resting in God's word?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You that I don't need to work to get the manifestation of Your promises, but rather rest in Your word to see them fulfilled. Your plans are greater than my plans, and You are faithful even when I struggle with doubt. I receive Your encouragement today and trust in Your perfect timing. You are my shield, and my reward shall be very great. In Jesus' name, Amen.
