Have you ever stood at the edge of a new opportunity and talked yourself out of it before you even began? You told yourself you were not qualified enough, not experienced enough, not known enough. You watched others step forward while you stayed put, convinced the competition was too strong. If that sounds familiar, today's meditation is written just for you.
The truth is, God is not looking for the most impressive resume. He is looking for the person who knows Him.
The Competition Does Not Disqualify You
When the search began for a new queen in the kingdom of Ahasuerus, it was no small event. Beautiful young women were gathered from every province of the kingdom. This was, in a very real sense, the world's first recorded beauty competition. And standing in that crowd was Esther, a Hebrew orphan with no family, no connections, no influence, and no earthly reason to believe she had any chance at all.
And yet she stepped forward. And she won.
"Let beautiful young virgins be sought out for the king... let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom to gather all the beautiful young virgins to the harem." - Esther 2:2-3
You might look at a job posting, a business opportunity, or a new role and immediately disqualify yourself in your own mind. And the story of a real woman makes this point impossible to ignore.
There was a lady who attended a workplace prayer group. She had been stuck at the same entry-level position for over 25 years. Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with starting at that level. But here is what made her situation heartbreaking: she was not there because she lacked ability. She was the one training the junior staff. She was the one training the mid-level employees. She was the one training the team leaders and supervisors above her. She knew everything that needed to be known. She had the skills, the experience, and the knowledge to move forward. But every time a promotion opportunity came up, fear stepped in and convinced her that she could not win, that the competition was too great, that someone else was more qualified.
And so she stayed. Year after year, she poured her knowledge into others who moved ahead of her, while she remained exactly where fear told her to stay.
In her very last year before retirement, she sat in that prayer group and said with deep regret, "If I had heard these teachings even just one year earlier, I would have retired in a much higher position."
Do not let that be your story. When God urges you to try something new, put your hand up. When you do, you will see the hand of God move on your behalf.
When God leads you to step forward, the hand you raise is the hand God honors.
You Only Need to Know One Thing
Daniel and his three friends were taken from their homeland as captives. Like Esther, they entered a foreign environment with nothing familiar around them. They did not know the language of that culture, the customs of that court, or the people in power. But they knew one thing. They knew God.
And that was enough.
"As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams." Daniel 1:17
When you sit in the presence of God, when you stay connected to His Word, He equips you with what you need. You do not have to know everything. You do not have to arrive already prepared. God gives you the learning, the skill, the wisdom, and the understanding. He teaches you things you did not study for. He opens doors you did not knock on. He places you in rooms you could never have entered on your own.
And when the king examined Daniel and his friends at the end of their preparation, here is what he found:
"In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his kingdom." - Daniel 1:20
Ten times better. Not slightly better. Not just enough to get by. Ten times. And this happened before Jesus even came in the flesh. How much more is available to you now, on this side of the cross, with the Holy Spirit living inside you?
Wisdom Is Your Inheritance
You might be tempted to say, "I am not very good at this subject," or "I have never done this before," or "I am not the most talented person in the room." But that thinking does not align with what God's Word says about you.
"Because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption." - 1 Corinthians 1:30
Christ is your wisdom. That is not a motivational phrase. That is a spiritual reality. When you are in Christ, you have access to divine wisdom for every situation, every decision, every competition, and every challenge. You can declare with confidence: wisdom is my inheritance. I will make the right choices because the wisdom of God lives in me.
Wisdom is not something you earn. It is something you inherit in Christ.
Bring God Into Every Giant
When the entire Israelite army stood trembling before Goliath, one shepherd boy from the countryside walked onto the field and changed everything. What made David different was not his size or his strength. It was his perspective. Every time David faced a challenge, he brought God into the situation. He connected the giant with the name of his God and walked forward without fear.
You can do the same thing. When fear shows up, you speak to it. When a challenge tries to intimidate you, you remind it who you belong to. Your body is the temple of the living God. Your future is held in the hands of the One who changes times and seasons. You are more than a conqueror. Not because of anything you have done, but because of who lives inside you.
"None was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah." Daniel 1:19
Place your hand on your head right now and declare: none will be found like me when I stay in the presence of God. When I seek His wisdom, when I trust His Word, I will walk in excellence that can only come from Him.
Conclusion
You are called to step forward, not to shrink back. The competition is not your enemy. Fear is. And God has already provided everything you need to face every giant, enter every room, and walk in excellence that reflects His glory. Put your hand up. Trust His wisdom. Step into the opportunity He has placed before you. The promotion belongs to God, and He is more than able to lift you to where He has always intended for you to be.
Reflect on This
What opportunity, promotion, or challenge have you been avoiding because you felt unqualified, and how can you bring God into that situation today?
How does understanding that Christ is your wisdom change the way you approach learning, competing, and growing in your everyday life?
Prayer
Father, I thank You that Christ is my wisdom, my righteousness, my sanctification, and my redemption. I declare that I will no longer run from challenges or disqualify myself before I begin. I put my hand up in faith today, knowing that when I seek You, none will be found like me. You are teaching me new skills, new ways, and new paths. I walk in ten-times excellence because Your Spirit is in me. Promotion comes from You, and I trust You completely. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Key Takeaways
God uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways, and stepping forward in faith is the first act of obedience required.
You only need to know one thing to succeed: knowing God is the foundation of every skill, promotion, and breakthrough.
Christ has literally become your wisdom, meaning divine understanding is your inheritance, not something you must earn.
Bringing God into your challenges, as David did with Goliath, transforms how you see and face opposition.
The minimum guarantee for those who seek God is to be ten times better, not just marginally ahead.
