Today, let's discover the transformative power of understanding who you truly are in Christ. This isn't just about feeling better about yourself; it's about recognizing the divine identity that has been placed upon you through the finished work of Jesus. When you grasp this truth, everything changes. Your battles become victories, your fears transform into faith, and your limitations give way to limitless possibilities.
The Power of Knowing Who You Are
In the story of David and Goliath, we find a profound truth that many overlook. For forty days, Goliath mocked the Israelites, challenging them to send someone to fight. Every single person in Israel had the same covenant with God. They all had access to the same promises, the same protection, the same power. Yet they all fled in fear. They forgot who they were. They forgot whose they were.
"All the men of Israel when they saw the man, fled from him and were much afraid." - 1 Samuel 17:24
But one young man arrived on the scene with a completely different perspective. David didn't see an impossible giant. He saw an uncircumcised Philistine defying the armies of the living God. The difference wasn't in their covenant. The difference was in their understanding of that covenant. David knew his identity. He knew which side God was on. He knew this wasn't a fair fight because God was with him.
"For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?" - 1 Samuel 17:26
You Are a Saint
The Apostle Paul begins his letter to the Ephesians with a powerful declaration: "To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus." Notice he doesn't say "to the sinners trying to become saints." He addresses them as saints. You have been made holy through Jesus Christ. This isn't about your performance or your perfection. This is about what Jesus accomplished on the cross.
"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus." - Ephesians 1:1
In the Old Covenant, when someone brought a lamb for sacrifice, the high priest would have them place their hand on the lamb's head. In that moment, a divine exchange occurred. All the innocence of the lamb transferred to the person, and all their sin transferred to the lamb. The high priest never questioned the person. He only examined the lamb. Can you find any fault in Jesus, the Lamb of God? All His righteousness has come to you.
"He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." - 2 Corinthians 5:21
Chosen Before Time Began
You weren't an afterthought. You weren't a backup plan. Before the foundation of the world, God chose you. He looked through the corridors of time and selected you to be His own. You have been chosen, loved, and cared for by the Creator of the universe.
"Even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him." - Ephesians 1:4
Many people struggle with feelings of rejection and worthlessness, especially in difficult seasons. But God wants you to know this morning that you are chosen. Not because of what you've done, but because of who He is. You are a chosen one in Christ.
Adopted Into God's Family
God didn't just rescue you and drop you off at a safe place. He adopted you back into His family. He brought you into the very household of heaven and said, "This is your home now. Share the room with your brother Jesus." You are not a distant acquaintance. You are family.
"In love He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will." - Ephesians 1:5
You have been sealed by the Holy Spirit. You belong to God. You are not your own. You were bought at a price. And because of this, you never have to feel alone. Jesus promised, "I am with you always." You might be in a difficult workplace. Everything might seem to be against you. But who do you belong to? You belong to Christ.
"For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
The Old Testament vs. The New Covenant
There's a fundamental shift between the Old Testament and the New Testament. In the Old Testament, the prayers were "Lord, bless me. Lord, give me. Lord, help me." But in the New Covenant, the declaration is different: "I am already blessed. I am already healed. I am already prosperous." This isn't arrogance. This is faith in what Jesus has already accomplished.
You might be thinking, "But I don't see that in my life. I don't see that in my family." Remember, every Israelite had the chance to defeat Goliath, but only one believed he could. The enemy has already been stripped of his power by Jesus on the cross. The victory is already won. You just need to step into it.
You don't need more power. You need the revelation of how much you already have.
Living From Your New Identity
Romans 14:23 tells us that anything without faith is sin. The Israelites weren't just afraid; they were living in unbelief. They had forgotten their covenant. They had forgotten their God. But you don't have to make that same mistake. You can face your battles knowing who you are in Christ.
The greatest gift God has given us is salvation through Jesus Christ. Not because of your family background, not because of your education, not because of your strength. It's because of what Jesus did on the cross. Everything has been paid for. Your sickness, your sin, your shame. The bill was settled 2,000 years ago.
"In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace." - Ephesians 1:7
Conclusion
Today, it's time to exchange your old identity card for a new one. Whatever labels you've been carrying, shame, failure, unworthiness, leave them at the cross. You are righteous because the Bible says you are righteous. You are chosen because God chose you. You are a saint because Jesus made you holy. You are adopted because the Father brought you into His family. Walk in this truth today and watch how your perspective transforms every challenge you face.
Reflect on This
What old identity cards have you been carrying that need to be left at the cross today?
How would your daily life change if you truly believed and lived from your identity as a chosen, holy, righteous child of God?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the new identity You have given me in Christ. I declare that I am righteous, not because of my works, but because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross. I am chosen, I am adopted, I am sealed by Your Holy Spirit. I am a saint, made holy through the blood of Jesus. I release every old identity of shame, failure, and unworthiness. I receive my new identity as Your beloved child. I am blessed, I am redeemed, I am accepted, I am seated with Christ in heavenly places. I am more than a conqueror, I am an overcomer. Thank You, Lord, for who You have made me to be. In Jesus' name, Amen.
