God is always working in the background of your life, even in seasons when He feels completely absent or silent.

There are seasons in life when God feels completely silent. You look at your circumstances and you cannot find a single trace of His hand at work. You pray and the heavens feel like brass. You wait and nothing seems to move. If that is where you are today, this word is for you. God is not absent. He is not distracted. He is not unaware of what you are going through. He is working in the background, and the entire sweep of Scripture proves it.

Hidden, But Never Gone

Here is one of the most remarkable facts about the book of Esther. The name of God does not appear in it even once. Not a single mention. Yet if you read it carefully, His fingerprints are on every single page. Every twist, every turn, every seemingly random event was being directed by an unseen hand. That is the theme of the book: God's hidden power and God's hidden provision.

And that is the same truth for your life today. There may be situations around you where you cannot see God at work. You cannot feel His presence. You cannot trace His steps. But He is there. He is in the midst of your story. He is acting in the background, doing works you cannot yet see.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6

Declare it right now. My God is with me. He never leaves me. He never forsakes me. Not because your circumstances confirm it, but because His word says so.

The Bible Is One Unbroken Story of Faithfulness

To truly understand how God works, you need to step back and look at the big picture. The Bible is not a collection of disconnected stories. It is one continuous, unfolding narrative of a God who refuses to give up on His people.

It starts in Genesis. Creation, the fall, and the beginning of God's rescue mission. From Adam to Noah is ten generations. From Noah to Abraham is another ten. Then Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. Joseph, a slave, rises to become prime minister of Egypt. His entire family, all seventy of them, eventually settle in Egypt, and in time they become slaves themselves. But God does not abandon them. He raises Moses. He parts the Red Sea. He delivers His people with a mighty hand.

"He rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves." Colossians 1:13

At Mount Sinai, God gives His people the law through the book of Leviticus. He walks them through forty years in the wilderness, recorded in Numbers. He restates the law for an entirely new generation in Deuteronomy before they step into the promised land. Then Joshua leads them in. Judges rise and fall. Samuel anoints kings.

Every single step of the way, God is present. God is working. God is faithful.

When You Trust God, He Can Lift You From the Dust

Think about Joseph for a moment. He was thrown into a pit by his own brothers. Sold as a slave. Falsely accused. Thrown into prison. And yet, God was in every single one of those moments, working something that Joseph could not see from where he was standing.

"He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor." 1 Samuel 2:8

When you trust God, even a slave can end up in the palace. Even a prisoner can become a prime minister. Your circumstances do not determine your destination. God does. And the same God who lifted Joseph out of the pit is the same God who is at work in your situation right now.

When you trust God, He can change your story from slavery to the palace.

Reading the Bible With Fresh Eyes

One of the most important things you can do as a believer is learn to read the Bible as one connected story. Every book flows into the next. Genesis lays the foundation of creation and the fall. Exodus records the deliverance of God's people from Egypt. Leviticus gives the law and the pattern of worship. Numbers records the wilderness journey and the two censuses taken of the people, which is exactly where the book gets its name. Deuteronomy means the second giving of the law, because Moses repeated the commandments to an entirely new generation standing at the banks of the Jordan River, ready to enter what God had promised.

Then Joshua leads them in. The land is distributed to each tribe. The judges are raised when the people wander. Samuel comes as prophet. Saul is crowned as the first king. David rises after Saul. Solomon builds the temple. And then, tragically, Solomon turns to idols, and the kingdom that was once unified begins to fracture.

Every book, every chapter, every turning point is God writing one story. And the central message of that story, from the very first page to the very last, is this: God never gives up on His people.

Conclusion

Whatever you are facing today, you are not alone in it. You are not navigating your life outside of God's awareness. He was present with Joseph in the pit. He was present with Israel in the wilderness. He was present in the book of Esther even when His name was never spoken. And He is present with you right now, working in the background of your story, arranging what you cannot see, and moving in ways you have not yet recognised.

You do not need to see every step to trust the One who holds every step. He has never abandoned His people, and He is not about to start with you.

Reflect on This

  1. When you look back over your life, can you identify moments where God was clearly working behind the scenes, even in seasons when you could not feel His presence? What does that tell you about what He might be doing right now?

  2. Reading the Bible as one connected story of God's faithfulness, how does that change the way you see your own story? Are you able to trust that the same God who was faithful across every generation is being faithful in your situation today?

Prayer

Father, I thank You that You are always present, always working, and always faithful, even when I cannot see You or feel You. I declare right now that You are with me in the middle of every situation I am facing. You never leave me and You never forsake me. I choose to trust Your faithfulness today, not because my circumstances confirm it, but because Your word and Your history declare it. Open my eyes to see what You are doing in the background of my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
