Today, let's explore the profound difference between living as a blessed person versus living under limitation. It is a fundamental choice we make daily about where we place our trust. As we dive into God's Word, prepare to discover the lifestyle that leads to true flourishing and victory.
Two Distinct Lifestyles
Scripture presents us with two clear paths of living. In Jeremiah 17, we encounter a powerful contrast that shapes our entire existence. There's the blessed person and there's another way of living that leads away from God's best.
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit." - Jeremiah 17:7-8
The blessed person has learned to trust completely in God rather than in their own flesh. They've discovered that putting God first, seeking His kingdom above all else, creates a foundation that cannot be shaken. This person understands that God is their source, not their job, their bank account, or even their family connections.
On the other hand, there's another lifestyle described in verse 5:
"Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord." - Jeremiah 17:5
This isn't about God cursing anyone, but rather about the natural consequences of walking away from the source of all blessing. When we trust in our own strength, our own experience, our own ability to figure everything out, we're choosing a path that leads to anxiety and limitation.
Learning from David's Example
David exemplified the blessed lifestyle perfectly. When King Saul and his entire army pursued him, David could have trusted in his own cunning or strength. Instead, he declared God as his refuge, his hiding place, his shelter. The result? An entire kingdom couldn't find one man because God was his protection.
"God is my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." - Psalm 46:1
David understood that when everything in the physical realm seemed against him, he had access to a spiritual realm where God reigned supreme. He didn't need to fear what man could do because his trust was anchored in the Lord.
When David had the opportunity to harm Saul, he chose forgiveness and honor instead. This blessed lifestyle led to David becoming king, and even Jesus was called the Son of David. The blessed person's influence extends far beyond their lifetime.
Breaking Free from Survival Mentality
The world system teaches survival of the fittest, where you must dominate or be dominated, where you must cheat others to get ahead. This was Jacob's initial approach. He thought he had to deceive his brother and father to secure his future. He was living by his flesh, trusting in his own schemes.
But Jacob's story didn't end there. He eventually learned to live the blessed lifestyle, understanding that God could elevate him without requiring him to diminish others. God's kingdom operates on abundance, not scarcity. There's enough blessing for everyone when we trust in the Lord.
Remaining Green in Every Season
The blessed person is like a tree planted by water. Bible promise that when challenging times come, they won't impact you the same way they impact others.
Your leaves remain green. You don't become anxious. You continue to bear fruit even when circumstances suggest you should be withering. This is the supernatural result of having your roots deep in the water of God's Word and presence.
When anxiety tries to grip your mind, when depression attempts to settle in, when the enemy whispers lies about your future, you must take a stand. Resist these thoughts and declare your identity as a blessed person. You are not anxious because your trust is in the Lord.
Conclusion
Today, you have a choice to make about which lifestyle you'll embrace. Will you live as the blessed person who trusts completely in God, or will you rely on your own strength and understanding? God is calling you to choose the blessed lifestyle, knowing that even when others reject you, He never will. You are chosen, anointed, strengthened, and healed by God. You've been bought with the precious blood of Jesus.
Remember, God can take the stone that was rejected and make it the cornerstone. Your past failures, your current circumstances, your limitations don't define your future. God's ability to transform and elevate does.
Reflect on This
In what areas of your life are you still trusting in your own strength rather than putting your complete trust in God?
How can you practically live out the blessed lifestyle when facing rejection or difficult circumstances?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for calling me to live the blessed lifestyle. I declare that my trust is in You alone, not in my own understanding or strength. I am like a tree planted by water, and my leaves remain green in every season. No anxiety, depression, or fear can take root in my life because You are my source. I reject every work of the enemy and choose to walk in the authority You've given me. I am chosen, blessed, and destined for Your purposes. In Jesus' name, Amen.
