Believe When There Is Nothing Left to Believe

Have you ever stood in a moment where every logical reason to hope had disappeared? The doctors said they had done all they could. The door you were waiting on said it would not open. The people you were counting on told you they were out of options. If you have been in that place, or if you are there right now, this message was written for you.
Because this is exactly the moment God specialises in.
When Believing Seems Impossible
Romans 4:18 tells us something extraordinary about Abraham. It says that against hope, he believed in hope. Not "despite the odds," but against hope itself. There was no rational basis left. His body was as good as dead. Sarah's womb was long past the season of bearing children. Everything in the natural world said this moment had passed. And yet Abraham believed.
"Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be." Romans 4:18
What did he believe? That the God who raises the dead and calls things that do not exist as though they did exist was with him. That is the God we serve. He is not limited to what currently exists. He calls things from nothing into being. He calls dead things back to life. And He is calling something back to life in your situation right now.
The God who calls things that do not exist as though they exist is the same God walking with you today.
God Does Not Change His Mind
You may have wondered, especially after a long season of waiting, whether God has changed His mind about you. Whether the promise has expired. Whether you missed the window. Let me take you to Numbers 23:19, because God answers that directly.
"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" Numbers 23:19
A person might promise and forget. A person might say yes today and no tomorrow. But God is not built that way. What He has said, He will do. What He has spoken, He will make good. And then the very next verse says something that should settle every anxiety in your heart: "I have received commandment to bless, and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it." He has already issued the command to bless you. That command cannot be cancelled. Not by your circumstances, not by your past, not by your failures.
The Sound of Rain Before the Rain
In 1 Kings 18, there is a moment that I want you to carry with you today. The prophet Elijah tells King Ahab to eat because he hears the sound of heavy rain. But there is no rain. There is no cloud. There is no wind. The sky is completely clear. And yet he sends his servant seven times to go and look, and each time the servant comes back saying there is nothing.
But Elijah had already heard the sound in his spirit before a single drop had fallen.
"And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand." 1 Kings 18:44
That small cloud became a torrential downpour. And that is where God is asking you to stand today. You may look at your bank account and see nothing. You may look at your situation and see nothing. But God is saying: listen for the sound of abundance. Listen for the sound of your children running and playing. Listen for the sound of the rain that is coming. Before the cloud appears, you can already hear it.
And in 2 Kings 3:17, God speaks to a situation where there is no wind and no rain, yet He promises the valley will be filled with water.
"For this is what the Lord says: You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink." 2 Kings 3:17
Your circumstances do not need to look like provision is on the way for provision to come. God does not need the natural indicators to be in place. He fills valleys supernaturally.
The Net That Could Not Hold the Blessing
Luke 5 gives us Peter's moment. He had laboured all night and caught nothing. All night. With his expertise, with his equipment, with everything he had. And still nothing. When Jesus told him to let down the nets one more time, every part of his experience said it was pointless. But he said those seven words that changed everything: "Nevertheless, at Your word, I will."
"And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net." Luke 5:5
And the catch was so large the net began to break. It did not just fill his boat. It filled every other boat nearby too. That is what God's overflow looks like. It does not just meet your need. It spills over into everyone around you. This is the glory realm, where your blessing is so large it cannot be contained in your own vessel.
He Who Begins Will Also Finish
Here is something that should lift a great weight off your shoulders. Hebrews 12:2 calls Jesus the author and finisher of your faith. He is not just the one who started something in your life and then stepped back to watch how you manage. He started it, and He will complete it.
"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2
Jesus used an illustration in Luke 14:30 about a builder who starts a tower. Before he lays a single stone, he sits down and calculates whether he has enough to finish it. The point is this: you are worth far more to God than any building project. If He started working in you, He counted the cost. He knew what it would take. And He decided you were worth finishing.
Proverbs 23:18 says it plainly:
"There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off." Proverbs 23:18
surely there is an end, and your expectation will not be cut off. Your hope has a future. Your waiting has a conclusion. And Jude 1:24 tells us
"To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy" Jude 1:24
He is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before His presence with exceeding joy. He will not drop you in the middle of the story. He will keep you all the way to the end.
Conclusion
When there is nothing left to believe with, believe anyway. That is the kind of faith Abraham carried. That is the kind of faith that listens for the sound of rain before a single cloud forms. That is the kind of faith that lets down the net one more time even after a night of nothing. God is not done with your story. He who began a good work in you is committed to completing it. Your expectation will not be cut off. Your hope will not be put to shame. This is the season where the impossible becomes your testimony.
Reflect on This
In what area of your life have you been listening to the voices that say "there is nothing left," and how can you shift to listening for the sound of what God is already doing?
Like Peter who said "nevertheless at Your word," what is one step of obedience God is asking you to take right now, even when your experience is telling you it is pointless?
Prayer
Father, I thank You that You are the God who raises the dead and calls things that do not exist into being. Even when there is no reason left to believe, I choose to believe. I declare that Your word over my life will not return empty. You began this work in me, and You will complete it. My expectation is not cut off. My hope will not be put to shame. I let down my net one more time at Your word. I listen for the sound of abundance before I see a single sign of it. You are faithful, and I trust You completely. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Key Takeaways
Against all natural evidence, Abraham believed because he knew God raises the dead and calls things from nothing into existence.
God does not change His mind or go back on His word; the blessing He has commanded over you cannot be reversed.
Like Elijah, you can hear the sound of what God is about to do before any natural sign of it appears.
"Nevertheless at Your word" is the posture of faith that triggers supernatural overflow beyond what you can contain.
Jesus is both the author and the finisher of your faith; He will not abandon what He has started in your life.
